Anyone thinks it's the Dune of the 90's?
You can see how similar it is of having a messiah who is very different, greedy people who want control of something and that sort of theme.
I guess Frank Herbert's Dune was an inspiration. |

Re: Anyone thinks it's the Dune of the 90's?
Nope, I don't see any relation or similarities to Dune. And as much as I like Waterworld, don't insult Frank Herbert's masterpiece. Poor attempt at a comparison.

It's actually The Greatest Story Ever Told of the 90's. Think about it.

Apparently Hopper's character is much like the Baron all rolled into one and Costner's character like was Paul Atredis.

You're clearly on crack, Dj, and not sharing. The Deacon and the Mariner are nothing like those two characters. These flights of fancy of yours amuse us, please continue.

Re: Anyone thinks it's the Dune of the 90's?
Waterworld was The Road Warrior set on water. I can't recall or identify any influences beyond that. The Mariner was Max, The Deacon was The Lord Humongous - group of relatively innocent commoners fighting against leather clad, gasoline guzzling, chain smoking punk rockers exploit shady, loner to get to some mythical paradise and escape the baddies.
Can't even begin to think of one thing comparable to Dune. |

Great film, but does the title sound misleading? and since when does it have to do with Monkeys?
