Going through all of your Original Movie Poster threads, I have not only realised that a lot of old movies contain long taglines, but these long taglines are all printed in the same font! Seriously - check out the posters for Dune and Starman and several others I can't remember...

It was function over style (and there just weren't that many fonts back then that were legible, typographers stuck to simple stuff that worked). Serif font is easier and faster to read. Things had to be laid out the old fashioned way etc. Now any graphic designer worth his salt seems to do his own text work because he can incoporate it more into the image.
Aren't PCs great? That and the internet has really exploded font variety. -insert rolleyes (as the flip side being a whole new type of generic speel)- |
