Re: Great Sci-Fi Authors List
I tried reading "The Engines of God" (first book of the series "Chindi" is in) and I just couldn't get into it. I still have it because I'm loathe to toss any book. Perhaps I'll give it another shot someday.
I'm currently reading "Rendezvouz with Rama" and am enjoying it. There have been some books that I've put off reading for years, this is one. But, I probably will never pick up any of the Rama sequels. And since I brought up a critically acclaimed book that I thought was ho-hum…I'll toss out another. "Neuromancer" by Gibson. Ugh, what a mess…but certain circles worship the paper it was written on because Gibson was a cyberpunk trailblazer. I haven't read a William Gibson books since. My mother-in-law picked it up (because of the buzz) as a book she thought would introduce her to SF. She thought it was the worst book she'd ever read. I asked her to consult me next time she wants to try SF. She says: "There will be no next time." LOL!! Scarred for life. |

Re: Great Sci-Fi Authors List
No one, and I mean no one can diss "Ender's Game".
"Speaker for the dead" is different and I didn't enjoy it as much. But "Ender's Game" is awesome. If anyone tries to say otherwise then please just imagine me with fingers in ears and going "Blah blah blah I am not listening blah blah blah"! |

Re: Great Sci-Fi Authors List
Okay, I'll lay off "Ender's Game" and focus more on Kevin J. Anderson's brilliant body of copying...err...work.
