Pilot's Mess [chit-chat zone]

This is the forum to get to know your fellow pilots and the ONLY place to talk about everything else not really relevant to sci-fi movies, including your personal loves and interests. A true pilot doesn't discuss these issues while on duty.

Re: Census

Nerdy fact: Ireland broke of the European Mainland long before Britain, during an Ice Age. Thus, we have no moles or reptiles.

Re: Census

really? is that true? but don't things climb across on boats and stuff? or people bring them in as pets and release into the wild by accident?

Re: Census

I quite like the idea of a Mole stowing away....Maybe that'll be my new project: introducing moles to Ireland. As for Reptiles, any that are released into the wild tend to be tropical species that dont do terribly well in our (relatively) harsh climate.

Other nerdy fact: Farmers in the midlands are currently heeding a Big Cat Warning. Yes, thats right, we have our own mysterious big cat. The crucial difference being that our big cat (which appears to be a black panther...or three...) has been filmed, and the authorities are taking it very seriously, searching for it with choppers and everything. Its eluded them so far because the midlands have lots of bogs and forests....

Big Cat?!

Uh... listen, Jill girl, would you mind sending me a PM with everything you can, including pictures?

I'd like to make sure it's not a specific Mauler sighting.

Re: Census

Right, as far as I can see, the media lost interest towards the end of september, when the official search ended. (So what were the choppers I saw about?) but people are still talking about it. Most of the documented sightings were just North of the border. There also appears to be at least two: one has been identified as a North American Puma, the other appears to be a black panther, though he went very quiet, and the ISPCA thinks he may be either dead, or hes retreated to the really remote mountain areas. They're doubtful either will ever be caught. They reckon the cats are escaped exotic pets, which is not unlikely. A drugs raid in the hideous city of Limerick ("Stab City" we call it....) turned up jaguars and tigers, as well as lots of poisonous snakes.

This site covers wierdish news and urban legends in Ireland, and it has pretty much every link that could possibly be useful...
http://www.blather.net/****egeist/000106.htm

If you're interested in older Irish sightings...
http://www.scottishbigcats.co.uk/irishsightings.htm

(Edit-Slight problem with the first link. It wont work possibly because of the censored word....Follow it as far as the hompepage anyway and rummage around...)
