Re: Groups!

Not sure, but I know they're frowned on at other vB boards?

Re: Groups!

Other's don't like them because they can cause elitism - they can also be used to encourage certain behaviour.

Basically it's a user management system, you put users in groups differen't groups can receive different benefits (ie custom avs, secret forums) etc.

Ah, so that's what it is?

Well, I can't see it as anything we'll be using, other than to lump the moderators together.

Re: Groups!

Dunno Ramses could use it to encourage sf posts.

x posts = x rank = x benefits

Or other places would use them for differnt people that do different things

General Posters
Forums Hosts (encourage discussion, so will get some perks but not modship, ie maybe a fancier sig, posting template whatever - it's a recognition thing more than anything)
Forum Mods
Super mods
Site contributors - which could be split up into whatever (ie reviewers, news posters, material submission, feature writers - particularly for sites that drew their content from their forus, ie there would be a forum for "feature" which only feature writers could post in and that would be pulled into the site)
Site editors
etc
etc
etc

A lot of other places work on point systems rather than post ones too. Say a post = 1pt, a thread start = 2pts, a review = 5, a feature = 20, news = 10 whatever.

Re: Groups!

Whatever it is there is no way we can open new public groups. I am a moderator and it still says I don't belong to any "public" groups.

It would be cool if we could open our own . Say, one pilot, one group.

Something in the lines of :

Iwata creates a group
"Sf Anime fans" and accepts members for it. But I still don't see how will group membership help members benefit anything?

It'd make you feel even more like you've found others who share similar interests i guess.
