Masters of the Universe - A Sci-Fi Love Story
The Shark admits that, along with the Indianna Jones series and the Chris Reeve Superman series, the Dolph Lundgren/Frank Langella live action Masters of the Universe was his all-time favourite film up to the age of about 12 (when he first saw The Terminator, then everything went to hell).
Believe it or not this film is hard to come by on DVD (at least on Region 2). I have an aversion to buying 2nd-hand DVDs online without inspecting the disc beforehand, and the only copies I could find were from private sellers on Amazon asking for more than I was prepared to pay to relive my childhood. Up until recently I'd been making do with a VHS copy recorded off the TV from 1994. Anyway, I've been seeing my girl Amy for about 5 months now (it is she you can see semi-naked draped around my Avatar-painted body in the photo I posted in the Avatar thread) and had mentioned all this to her. So valentine's day rolls around and I do the whole sentimental 'trip to the movies to see The Wolfman in the VIP booth/box of chocolates hidden behind the bar which the waitress brought over' - you know the drill. I'm a romantic at heart and don't ask for much in return, although I had dropped a hint about the two-disc director's cut of Almost Famous. So when she presented me with a DVD shaped package, I was fully expecting some Cameron Crowe rock n roll goodness. She said my face when I tore open the packaging to find a copy of Masters of the Universe was the greatest thing she'd ever seen. I think she might be the one. Although she did admit she'd never seen it before and had to be converted. But I didn't subject her to the DVD commentary. That pleasure is for Sharks only...... ![]() Sharky and Amy - George McFly couldn't write a better match made in space |

Re: Masters of the Universe - A Sci-Fi Love Story
That is awesome!
I have the DVD and watch it every now and again. Langela's Skeletor is most definitelly one of the best screen villains ever! Him, Vader and The Horned King started my love affair with the bad guys. |
