Sony will do something similar to **** their sales up. I'll wait for the Nintendo Revolution thanks.

If Jill will permit me, I would like to copy her post and send it to my gaming friends.

Certainly - although, re-reading it, I got a little carried away about the wireless controller. The twenty quid cable is the play-and-charge kit - while connected it charges a battery pak for the controller, which can be disconnected once charged. However, given my frequent frustrations with rechargeable battery technology, I remain wildly unimpressed.

About the selective backwards compatibility... I have no idea. Perhaps it's all part of Microsoft's vision of THE FUTURE!, like their obsession with wireless? I don't want to yet again paint myself as some ranting hippy type, but the Rep's repeated references to The Microsoft Vision and the Microsoft Future were oddly unnerving.

For instance - he told us that the original XBox has cost Microsoft 3 billion dollars - Microsoft had allowed for this, he said, because the Xbox was only ever intended as the first step in The Microsoft Future, just a way for Microsoft to get a foothold in that market. The ultimate goal is a hub - a unit that performs the duties of a games console, transfer information from your laptop, can message through the telly, store your photos, etc. All of this, of course, depends on having - you've guessed it - Windows Media Centre Edition.

The guy told us that Microsoft has no problem losing that 3 billion, because their long term plan for the XBox line is simply as a platform to encourage and support their domination of the OS market. Which, while it has no bearing at all on the quality of the games or the machines, still weirds me out because the guy explained this in almost exactly the same tone as a character from Equilibrium. This is the new way! This is the Microsoft Vision! This is THE FUTURE!

So is Bill Gates the anti-Christ, ready to usher us into the last days with his vast, enslaving moncarchy of binary code and silicon?

The impression I got from the cultist rep guy was that no, Gates wasn't the anti-Christ. However, if Microsoft host a special party next time there's a meteor sighting, I'd steer clear of the kool-aid if I were you. He's not enslaving us! He's freeing us! This is the new way! This is the Microsoft vision! The MICROSOFT FUTURE!!!

Will Sharky be re-wired and return singing the praises of 'that nice Mr. Gates' and his hired goons??

IF I buy any of these, I still think it'll be the PS3 ... but it'll have to wait a long time, about as long as it took me to get a PS2, whivh I only bloody got at the end of last yearand now there'll be another one

All cyborgs keep a back-up of their personalities somewhere safe for these very occaisions. They will never silence the Shark!

Sometimes buy a console at the end of its life is the best time. It's when the games are old enough to be cheap but not too old to be collector's items.
