Well, I'm not familiar with the comic book MJ, just the one from those horrid daily comics. The movie MJ is nothing like her, and that's great. The daily comic MJ is a self-absorbed, gullible, twit. Needless to say, I liked movie MJ much better.

I liked her, and not JUST from an eye-candy point of view

It's good to see a strong female character, despite the fact that ... well ... let's face it ... she's just the love-interest. she had nothing to do in this movie, but I'm sure if the franchise continues she'll be given more interesting stuff to do.

It'd be a waste of a good character if they don't.

Aside from the eye candy, she still portrayed herself well. Though not similar to her comic book self.

Movie-wise, would it be better to keep her as a love interest who doesn't know the full facts, or follow comic tradition, where she discovers Peter's secret and eventually marries him?

From what little I've seen of the Spider-man comics I'm very glad we have a more gutsy MJ in the movie.

Expostion wise we need her to find out about Peter she half knows as it is, it's something that sustains the audiences interest and demands a pay off at some point.

I've got a good spread of the comics from across the decades and Marry Jane is portrayed well, though Im not sure where the heck they got the abusive father thing... Dose EVERY comic to movie now HAVE to have an abusive father somewhere? Cant characters develop for other reasons?

Then again Marvel was abusive father-happy and well into a series you'd see out of the absolute blue some member who had a perfectly happy family life before, now has, drumroll please, an abusive parent...

The other great loves of marvel being divorce, and Killing off entire groups of characters just because... ugh...

But in any case I thought she was played well, the character allways seemed more self assured and confident than the usual female characters you see. But then Spidy allways did seem attracted to the strong assertive female types. heh!

cant nerdy dudes like hot chicks?

i like her, and from the comics i have, they are already married, so i dont have much to go on. for some reason though, i think raimi might be looking at a little ultimate spiderman as well. in those, she does have a semi abusive father, doc ock is way cooler, and MJ is the first love, and not Gwen stacy.

The MJ in the movie is a good person. The MJ in the comic is some unlucky selfcentered b*tch who does many notsosmart things to endanger herself, and thusly, have Peter save her.

Twice now MJ has gotten herself in a situation where she's at the mercy of the bad guy, the classic damsel in distress, waiting eagerly for Spidey to whisk her off to saftey, nipples ever at attention in her wet blouse!

Just wondering when they'll do the inevitable - give her something to do other go gushey over spiderman, get into trouble, and scream a lot.
