Gothika and Ghosts

Ok--so I jsut watched Gothika. There was a ghost girl in that flick, right? And she was be NO MEANS benevolent.

I think I have the "Help Me" ghost downpat ----selfish, driven, and by-any-means-necessary. . .

These ghosts in these movies are driven by the basest impulses, and are willing to do whatever they have to do to achieve their objective. Hence, they will destroy the lives of the persons they want to help them, in order to get their attention. This seems to be a recurring phenomena in the movies i see.

Gothika w/ Halle Berry
Stir of Echoes w/ Keven Bacon

I know there are more movies depicting these "done wrong in real life--avenge me please" type of ghosts----but they are always destructive!

Halle got whomped on. . . .. . .but whats new?
(ok, that was in poor taste. . .)

It has Hale Berry, doesn't it?

Then I'm not watching it. She's the worst thing since Julia Roberts.

oh dont get me wrong, I like Halle Berry---she just looks as thought she's on crack cocaine lately. . . .or maybe she's like Whitney----"How DARE you accuse me of doing crack? Only the poor do crack, and Im not poor, thank you!" (ok--that was a Whitney paraphrase)

but I do think she on drugs. . .shes way to skinny lately. looks like a gawky teenager.

I thought Gothika was going to be boring. Then I saw trhe first half of the trailer and thought 'Oh, this looks alright after all'. Then the ghost showed up and I thought "There goes another interesting-looking movie, right down the toilet." I won't be watching this, I think.

It was typical in a Halle Berry way, and in a Charles Dutton way.
Nothig really new to see there.

My point was about Ghosts in movies. Maybe I shouold put a new thread deleting Gothika from it.

How about The Ring? Samara/Sadoko was a ghost-type-thing, she was wronged in life - and she was very damn destructive.

You're right, there's definitely a pattern developing...

There probably are children here, yes - there certainly have been before. But the sad truth is that most children nowadays probably wouldn't even know the proverb I was referring to. Most children in my town probably don't know what a proverb is

But I digress ... ghosts on film ... there's The Sixth Sense, the ghosts in that weren't destructive, were they?

That movie primaraly delt with ghosts that wanted help, though I think there were some destructive ones, like the guy in the storage area at the kids' birthday.
