Flash Gordon TV series 2007

http://scifipedia.scifi.com/index.ph...ies%2C_2007%29)

Why have I only discovered this now? The 80s version was unashamedly one of my favourite childhood (and still high-ranking in near-adulthood) favourite films. When you think that the original story spawned a whole host of sequels and comics, it seems logical that this should work as a TV series in the Smallville vein. The publicity shot of Gordon and Dale, below, looks like spot-on casting (Flash is played by Whitney from Smallville).

Perhaps because I'm so used to the comic-book version and Max Von Sydow's interpretation of Ming, when I first saw the screenshot, below, I was perhaps a bit under-whelmed. However reading an interview with the actor here it is obvious that he totally understands the character and his relationship with his daughter.

The story of Flash Gordon is one of my favourite Sci-Fi tales. I will be watching this for certain, although I suspect that the Sci-Fi Channel's August 10th release date does not apply to the UK

EDIT: I was right. Damn lucky yanks! Fingers crossed we get it over here soon.

Another screenshot, featuring Flash, Dale, Ming and Aura (and what I suspect to be Zarkov's hand on the left):

Teaser Trailer!!!! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ef9kaIUyD0s

Featuring the Queen score. Whether it will make it into the actual series is unknown, but I have everything crossed that it will.

Ok ignore that crappy youtube teaser. A better teaser along with a four-minute mini-doc can be found here.

From the offical Sci Fi Channel Flash Gordon website here

Never.

But I liked to watch a Flash Gordon animated series from TTC(The Children's Channel) over the satellite in the 90's and I actually thought it was quite good.

I tuned in for a little bit last week. I don't like the new TV show, it's really boring.

I totally agree sharky. They play Queen's music(or is it a cover) on commercials but not on the show. . The guy playing Ming is good but no where near Max von Sydow's Ming

Re: Flash Gordon TV series 2007

Forgot about this thread. I watched the first series. It was fairly rediculous but strangely watchable, if only for the beautiful Karen Cliche.

The theme tune they ended up using was...ahem...definately liberated from Duke Nukem. Vultan is now played by a muscular Scandanavian which hardly macks up for the lack of a bearded Blessed
