Adaptation

This will be my 1000 posts. Thank you all.

Has anyone considered a real-time film adaptation of the mangas? I know the anime followed the mangas pretty closely until Tetsuo reached Akira, then it went downhill.

I would love to see a film version of this movie, it would be great. Any comments?

Re: Adaptation

Rejoice all!

WB Studios just announced a version of Akira to be produced! It will be done by the creator of Blade.

No release date as of yet.

I hope everyone else is as psyched as I am for this!

akira adaption

ah.

i am not sure about it. this anime is a masterpiece and i very much doubt the americans will make something good out of it. why not invent cool, NEW stories ? - even the remake of spiderman was so awful i could hardly bear it...

Re: Adaptation

I have ultimately high hopes for this film. I am probably more psyched about this than any other movie that was, is, or shall be. I am a HUGE Akira fan, and I think that even the WB studios will do a good job in adapting Katsuhiro Otomo's masterpiece into a well-made live action movie.
I heard that they were sticking to the original story (that's a relief), but are making it more 'American.' I'm sure that means that we will see some crap, but maybe not, you never know.

AKIRA!

Re: Adaptation

A live adaptation would be extremly difficult to make. American versions of Japanese things always seem to go down hill.

Re: Adaptation

Well, maybe you don't also want to know that besides Akira, they are making a DBZ and a Ninja Scroll live action movie. Ninja Scroll I can see working, but DBZ? I dunno......but I hope it shall be good.

I hope they don't make a live-action version of it, it'll never be the same

I've only just seen it myself, and I love it. If Hollywood re-make it, it could be disastrous. But maybe i'm just cynical, maybe they'll do a great job and they won't get Haley Joel Osment to play Akira

Re: Adaptation

Hey look at the bright side, if they do cast that little brat at least he turns into a blob at the end.

DBZ needs to stay a cartoon. Ninja Scroll could be turned into an ok live action flick.

Actually, Akira's not the one who turned into a blob at the end, that's Tetsuo

Re: Adaptation

Ah thats right. My bad. Aww hell it could be bad if hes cast. Quick if Peter Jackson changes the ending to LOTR we kill both of them and call it an act of god.

Re: Adaptation

Actually, if Peter Jackson had a hand in this, my expectations would raise slightly. At least I know he'd do the blob part well - look at his first movies!

Re: Adaptation

if Peter were involved We'd have no worries. But the director of Blade... I can tell you know they're going to make it into an action packed, no plot movie. They'll probably remove a lot of the story elements, hack the timeline of the movie, and switch or erase characters to the point the movie will have nothing to do with it's predecessor.

Re: Adaptation

Quentin Tarantino?

I imagine It would follow the likes of Pulp Fiction. Heheh Marsellus Wallace is A.K.A Gandalf the Drug Lord. "I'm going to go Middle Earth on your ass"
