Which Transformers cartoon series did you prefer?

Now, I'm no expert. but I watched the cartoons, read the comics, watched the movie and loved the toys. I'm a minor Transformers fan. And I'm pissed off.

On Sky One this morning, I noticed about an hour or more of the new Transformers cartoons, Transformers : Armada. I watched about 5 minutes, before getting ... annoyed.

It's crap! I hated Beast Wars, novel idea but badly executed imho. And now this? Dear oh dear.

So ... which is prefered? I liked the original cartoon series, myself. I may have missed a few out, but all I know about are the Original, Beast Wars and Armada. There may have been more.

Re: Which Transformers cartoon series did you prefer?

Well, there was also "Beast Machines" a continuation of "Beast Wars", but with a darker tone. And there was "Robots in Disguise", it was around for about five minutes, then "Armada" arrived.

"Beast Wars" is my favorite of them all, it had a limited cast, and we got more info on each character. Plus, the episode "Code Of Hero" was the best animated story I've ever seen, including every toon movie ever made. I wish they would have made a Generation 1 toon with this same animation, instead of going with that anime crap. The new toons are god-awful, I refuse to watch them. And after buying the first season of the original series on DVD, I realized that my nostalgia covered up a lot of the faults in the series. It was great when I was a kid, but almost unwatchable now. The movie though, is still great.

Right, XXX. I started my TF nostalgia run with the movie (which I recentliy watched for the first time), which is still great. Unfortunately, rewatching the series did not live up to my expectations. There are some outstanding episodes (The Return of Optimus Prime, Five Faces of Darkness), but, alas, TF is a children's cartoon.

I think I'll try my luck with G.I. Joe next...

"G.I. Joe The Movie" was very sci fi, not too good, but very sci fi. It wasn't as real as I would have liked it too be, but the animation was top notch. If the Transformers movie would have done well theatrically, the G.I. Joe movie would have got released in theaters too. The tv series was definately for kids, but I think it holds up a lot better than the Transformers first series does. Now you know, and knowing is half the battle! Yo JOE!

I liked the movie a lot, they had some cool guest voices, such as Burgess Meredith or Don Johnson. Unfortunately my copy is half the American version and half British. Well, I think I'll have to get it on DVD.

Did you know that the British version of G.I. Joe is called Action Force and their battlecry is "Full Force"? Totally lame...

YO JOE!

Yeah, if it's G.I. Joe I know it. The G.I. Joe movie DVD is pretty good, it has all the public service announcements from the series on it. The first two mini-series are on DVD now, they're a lot better than the movie was. And if you wait until May, you can buy them packaged with an exclusive Snake Eyes figure.

Oh, I kinda highjacked this thread.

Unfortunately, here in Germany you can get only the G.I. Joe - The Movie DVD as UK import. Joe has never been that popular in Germany (since it was never dubbed for the German market). Since the DVD is UK, I'll probably get the "edited" version (Full Force! Yay! ). But there is hope. I remember watching British TV station Sky Channel and they showed the US version.

BTW, Snake Eyes was one of my fav characters.

Y'know, in that movie Duke actually was supposed to die. But they thought it was too much for kids, so they did a couple voice overs and boom! "Hey everybody Duke just came out of his coma! He's gonna be alright!".

Yeah, I know. But, hey, it's a kids movie after all and having someone like Duke die is pretty heavy stuff. Still it's one of my favorite cartoon movies with Transformers, Akira and Ghost in the Shell being the other ones.

The original Transformers, have been and always shall be, the only Transformers that I will like and watch. All these spin offs and whatnot are, in my opinion, garbage.

Okay, I will admit that The Original Transformers can be a little...well...childish, but they're still fun to watch. For me, it is a tie between the Original Transformers and Beast Wars, because I love Beast Wars. The characters are so cool, the stories and plots were great and there are some funny scence and references in there!

Now, the new stuff they are putting on television....ICK! Rumor has it that the stations are going to try yet again with another Transformers series Fall 2003. If this turns out to be true, let us pray that thrid time is a charm and them get it right!

Beast wars and original, are the best two

Armarda is too childish and really screws everything the other series have done up, it even throws the original movie out the window.

I agree... but wasn't the movie (Transformers) released about the time when the T-Former's hype was winding down and so begat the long anime drought before the explosion some many years later? I do think that for it's time the animation in T-Former's the movie was top notch and I remember NewType Magazine having these great Illustrations done of the main characters (would kill to have that issue again) especially where they had Galvatron Flipping the Reader the Bird and the only English on the page was "I KILLED OPTIMUS!" Gotta Love it!

I tend to agree was well, there was more continuity in Joe than in T-Formers (The original series). I came back into them when the CGI Invasion of Reboot and the like started. I found Beast Wars by Accident and was REALLY irritated when the local cable station STOPPED airing it the second episode into Beast Machines! AUGH!

I know that there is a boxed DVD set for Beast Wars (first season or something like that) and hope they release the rest as I would love to see them!

Re: Which Transformers cartoon series did you prefer?

Rhino Video has is working with MainFrame to get Beast Wars and Beast Machines released onto DVD.

When they first started releasing Beast Wars onto DVD there wasn't that big a hype nor that big of a demand, so instead of releasing four DVDs over a two year period, they just released the entire first season. My only hope is this is not a bad omen of any sort, because if Rhino doesn't think they can make money off of the two series they might drop the project all together. But, hopefully they won't drop the project and we can have our Beast Wars/Beast Machines collection complete in the next few years.

I sincerely hope so to be sure! I wish I had the season finale (was it?) of Beast Wars on tape where they all broke into the first ship and Megatron confronts the deactivated/sleeping Optimus and causes the temporal anomaly. I would love to have a marathon just to see ALL of them again! *AUGH!* (Okay... I'll be quiet now )
