6. Action Alerts: For All Battlestar Galactica Fans

UPDATED! Sign the Battlestar Galactica Continuation Petitions

UPDATED! Sign the Battlestar Galactica Continuation Petitions and show your support for a continuation of the Battlestar Galactica original series! The first petition is the Battlestar Galactica Original Revival Petition for Tom DeSanto, Bryan Singer, Dan Angel, Billy Brown, Glen A. Larson, Dan Pasternack, David Kissinger, Studios USA, Vivendi Universal, Sci-Fi Channel, and the Fox Network and states that We, the fans of the original 1978 sci-fi television series "Battlestar Galactica" are signaling our sincere hopes that original cast members (and their characters) are considered for regular roles in the new "Battlestar Galactica" pilot/ongoing series from Studios USA/Fox Network/Sci-Fi Channel in 2002. This is the Battlestar Galactica Original Revival Petition and currently has 17,400+ signatures. We still support this petition, so be sure to sign your name! The second petition is the Battlestar Galactica Richard Hatch Petition and respectfully requests that Richard Hatch make his trailer, "Battlestar Galactica: The Second Coming" available to be shown on the Internet. Richard Hatch -IS- listening! If you agree with the petition, then sign the petition to make your voice heard. The third petition is the Battlestar Galactica We The Fans Petition and states that We the fans of the mighty Battlestar Galactica would like to see the combined work of Tom DeSanto and Glen Larson in a major motion picture. As fans we also hope and pray that these two men can bring about a possible continuation with both the characters and actors that made the show a worth while venture. We don't ask for much but hope for a show that will make those who passed proud (Lorne Greene, Lloyd Bridges, Jonathan Harris, and John Colicos). Finally we believe that actions can speak louder then the printed words and hope that both men will take this request to heart. The fourth petition is the Battlestar Galactica: The Continuation Petition and states that The word has been given at Galacticon. The fans want above all else a continuation of the beloved series with Richard Hatch (Apollo), Dirk Benedict (Starbuck), and as many of the other stars of the show who want to participate. I don't believe we are asking for to much as evidenced by the huge DVD sales for the original product. The fifth petition is the Battlestar Galactica Larson/DeSanto Petition for Mr. Glen A. Larson, Mr. Tom DeSanto, Mr. Bob Wright CEO of NBC, Universal Studios and states that We the fans have signed this petition to show support for a Continuation of Battlestar Galactica with the original themes/characters/cast intact, as was announced at Glen A. Larson and Tom DeSanto at Galacticon. We support a united Larson/DeSanto effort. This petition begins December 10th 2003, which is one day after the final installment of the Ronald D. Moore Psuedo-Galactica mini series which aired on the Sci Fi Channel, to show that even after it's airing, there is still support and interest in a faithful Continuation of the original Battlestar Galactica series. Make a difference, be sure to sign the five Battlestar Galactica Continuation Petitions, and spread the word!

Public Apology from Micheleh to Macloud

"I am posting this in sincere apology for any misunderstandings that may have arisen between myself and Geoffrey Donne, known as Macloud. When I first met him, he contacted me in regards to a performance number for Galacticon. I thought it was an excellent idea. I told one of the Galacticon co-coordinators, Richard Hatch, about it, and he seemed to like the idea. I had been waiting to hear if it would be possible for Galacticon to afford to employ Mr. Donne. I have been told that the Galacticon coordinators are finally able to address scheduling performances for the entertainment. Regretfully, it looks like at this time Galacticon cannot afford to offer monies to any performers, but would be happy to offer publicity instead. I also need to clarify at this point that I am not nor have ever been employed by Galacticon or Richard Hatch- I simply pass on messages and try to keep people abreast of what is going on in a volunteer capacity. While I do help with certain work to be done for the Galacticon coordinators, as well as Don at Fleets, all of this is on a volunteer basis- everyone helping with both areas is. I had clarified this in my conversations, and any conversations between Mr. Donne and me were as a volunteer, working on my own. I did my best to pass on information in as timely a manner as possible. What I can state officially is that Richard thought that Mr. Donne's performance idea was excellent, and regretted that due to monetary constraints and the large numbers of offers we have received, that the offer could not be accepted. As far as misidentifying the costumer, this was due to my error in communication with Mr. Dickson, who I came to learn was the person creating the 'props' replicas. I apologize for not immediately verifying this as it was not entirely clear in my initial communication with him. I never had any intention of disparaging his work or the work of his partners- I thought the idea for the performance was excellent, and have heard the costumes were excellent as well. My post here was because Mark Dickson had written me in great distress, and I was attempting to get to the bottom of what he was saying. I never believed Mr. Donne to be doing anything improper. I simply wanted clarification on certain matters which had been brought to my attention by postings at Fleets and by Mr. Dickson, and again, I sincerely apologize if my post was construed as accusatory in any way. My posting here is purely representative of my personal concerns, and has nothing to do with any statement of intent by Galacticon or Richard Hatch. In summary, I was under the impression that I was assisting Mr. Dickson in a matter that caused him distress in no other capacity that that he knew me as a moderator for fleets and had contacted me asking for help. My intentions were clarification, not disparagement. I am perfectly willing to post this apology in the newsletter for Nathan to distribute to the fan groups as well." DeSanto's Foundation Imaging Trailer Online

New report from conundrum7g of ColonialFleets.com: "Over at Colonial Fleets we are releasing the Foundation Imaging Trailer. The trailer will be about a 11MB avi using the divx codec. For those who haven't heard of it, Foundation Imaging (the company that did special effects for Star Trek: The Next Generation among others) did a test render as a sample of what the DeSanto Battlestar Galactica Movie would look like. Its just test footage, and some of the models (most notably vipers) aren't finished Hi Resolution quality. But the Galactica was fully complete along with the Cylon Raiders. There is also a new sample cylon that was thrown together to show feasibility of how cylons could have been computer animated (though I don't think the design was final). The movie should be released tonight sometime. It was just test footage. But it was pretty incredible. I hope you enjoy it." The trailer can be downloaded at the following link at conundrum7g's web site. Thanks to conundrum7g for the report.

Sheba's Galaxy Summarizes Battlestar Galactica 2nd Season Changes

New report from Sheba's Galaxy owner John Dorsey: "Judging from the internet alone, it would appear that the new Galactica is hated by everybody! However, I've gotten a number of emails from people who say that actually enjoyed it for what it was. Still, my fellow episode reviewer Matthew Wharmby said he hated it so much he didn't even make it through the first hour. Oh, well... I've previously mentioned the recent news of what would have happened had there been a second season of Battlestar Galactica. Here are some details: Sheba was going to be killed off in the first episode of the second season. Commander Cain was going return only to have it revealed that he is an android! Tigh and Baltar were also going to be killed off. The reduction of the cast was apparently going to be done to keep the budget down. Boomer was suddenly going to become a doctor genius, as was Cassiopeia. Athena was going to be badly burned, treated by Cassie with plastic surgery and come back just as beautiful but with an entirely different face. This would have been done so another actress could take over the role. Apollo and Starbuck were going to switch roles-Apollo shirking his duties and becoming more involved with women. Starbuck was going to become Captain and be more serious. Can I say once again thank God the show was cancelled when it was? What a horrible disaster it would have been if the series had went in this direction. You may remember Larson's other sci-fi series, Buck Rogers, which had a decent first season and then plummeted into an abyss in the second season after Larson completely changed the premise of the show."

GalactiCon Memories - Get Them NOW!

New report from ojai22 at the Battlestar Galactica Club Forums: "The Larson movie may take a while to become reality on the screen. When it does all the Battlestar Galactica merchandise you have will rise in value. There is a place where you may purchase one-of-a-kind items that will soon have historic value. Whether or not you attended GalactiCon this past October you should have a piece of it to call you own. Please go to www.battlestargalactica.com and click on the GalactiCon link or go directly to their site at the following link. Once the movie is underway you're going to see these items start to appear on eBay at fantastic prices. If you want to 'invest' or keep your souvenirs as precious memories now is the time to buy. Take a look at the items - I really like those blue shot glasses, and I don't even drink! Think about it - you'll be able to attend the movie wearing an authentic GalactiCon T-Shirt. Be proud that you're a Battlestar Galactica Fan! DO IT NOW!" Thanks to ojai22 for the report.

New DVD Packaging News

New report from Battlestar Rycon owner Paul: "Repost from tvshowsondvd.com: The 'Traffic-Stopping Packaging' for Battlestar Galactica - The Complete Epic Series that caught everyone's attention turns out to be a limited-time offer. This week Universal announced that on Feb. 10th they are re-releasing the DVD set with different packaging, which will not include the very striking (and rather large) outer box that was designed to look like the enemy of the Colonial Warriors in the show. Due to the New Year's holiday, we were unable to obtain any shots of what the new 'unlimited' packaging will look like. We'll supply that just as soon as it's available. One speculation is that it will simply be the inner 'digipak' (cardboard fold-out disc case) that is currently inside the larger 'Cylon Head' version. One certain bet is that it WILL be smaller, and easier to store with the rest of your DVD collection. With that in mind, a casualty of this changeover COULD be the 9.5 inch by 8 inch, 20-page 'Collector's Book' that comes with the current packaging. Chock full of publicity photos and an episode guide, it's way too large to fit in the standard DVD cases (which are typically around 5.25" x 7.5". Perhaps it will be shrunk down to fit, modified in some way, or removed all together. Universal's information didn't discuss this item; we'll try to get an answer after the holiday week. The packaging change is sure to increase the chances of the original version becoming a collectible item. Some retailers are already sold out of this, and may or may not be able to restock. 'While supplies last' is soon going to become the key phrase where the Cylon Head Edition is concerned. Here at TVShowsOnDVD, we will today split out The Complete Epic Series into two different DVD listings: one for the 'Limited Cylon Head Edition', and the other for the upcoming 'Unlimited Packaging Edition' that's due on 2/10/04. This way, our registered users who like to use our 'catalog your TV-on-DVD releases' function will be able to specify exactly which version they own. Speculation is that the timing of this re-release may coincide with secret plans to release the 2003 mini-series 're-imagining' of the show, which Sci-Fi Channel recently aired. Most of you have strong feelings about this new version, either hating it outright or defending it fiercely. Those in the latter category are anxious for a DVD release of the mini-series. However, NO announcement has been made yet. Stay tuned, and we'll let you know if we hear anything." Thanks to Paul for posting the report at the Battlestar Rycon forums.
