I still can't argue with Schwarzenegger, Verovhen, and Dlck.

All of em say it was a dream. But again it was really a "viewer interperatation" movie.

Re: Spoilers: Was the whole movie just Quaid's "vacation?"

It was a dream for all the reasons already stated...my favorite is the Rekall technician's comment about "blue skies on Mars? That's a new one".

My other favorite is the video monitor with the two headed "alien" flashed briefly, that the technician says will be "integrated" in the Ego Trip. The two headed "alien" is Kuato.

Things that make you go...."Hmmmmm?"

Re: Spoilers: Was the whole movie just Quaid's "vacation?"

yeh but when the doctor tried to bring him back he started to sweat...that gave it away that it was reality...plus the fact he dreamt about the woman before meeting her..if it was a dream then why kill his best friend as well as having his wife be in on it........................

Talking Re: Spoilers: Was the whole movie just Quaid's "vacation?"

Well, my thoughts on the resolution of Rekall memory back to reality...

1) The scene with the doctor was obviously to convince Quaid that his memory was all real, so that he would pursue it to the end. That doesn't mean that it was real thoguh, because that entire scene would have been implanted as a memory, as further conspiracy-theory stuff that integrates with the rest of the conspiracy to hide the artifacts and oppress the Mars inhabitants. Memories of nervous people would sweat just like real people. Remember, Bob at Rekall said that the memories would be complete in every detail. If folks didn't sweat, stink, burp, groan from backaches, etc. then the experience would be too pristine and platic to be believable.

2) The way Quaid would be integrated back into his reality (as a jackhammer operator) would be a witness-protection program scenario, perhaps hiding out from Cohaagen's buddies or co-conspirators that resent the sudden lack of energy funds. His wife would have to be "saved" through a medical miracle (remember, Quaid never checks her body), and perhaps given a memory cap of her own, to make her the willing wife. That would reset their relationship without her having a memory of it, which would keep Quaid from having to discuss the memory with his wife... it would have to be a secret, to protect her memory cap and also his cover story (but, in reality, would integrate the dream back into reality and protect his real life and marriage). Of course, the lack of reports of a real blue Mars would be further "proof" of the conspiracy, and would suit to keep him in the "protection program".

Re: Spoilers: Was the whole movie just Quaid's "vacation?"

The thing that makes me wonder about it being a "dream" or "memory"...

What about all the scenes that don't include Quaid? Like when he first freaks out at Rekall and the technician shoots him up like twelve times? The saleman and the techs continue the discussion...something that Quaid should not remember at all. Following that train of thought, when he wakes up in the Johnnycab, he doesn't even remember what happened to him. Why implant him with the memory of waking up at Rekall at all if he's not going to remember it later?

Re: Spoilers: Was the whole movie just Quaid's "vacation?"

He sees it like he was dreaming.
Genius, ending where he realizes it could all be a dream and kisses the girl before he wakes up.

I thought about this movie and thought I was the only one who thought it was all part of the implant of Recall, so I decided to see if anyone else felt the same and I found this board, and am glad to see I am not the only one who thinks.

Re: Spoilers: Was the whole movie just Quaid's "vacation?"

i think it may be real because.....

although you say that all the things were mentioned etc b4 it happend....

1) how do we know that he had not already gone to recall (in a part we didnt see) and it went wrong so they had to erase his memory and make a new one - and he went to recall again and that is why he suffered the fit.

It was for real

I totally agree with the person who had thought about the scenes that did'nt include Quaid. I had exactly the same thought!

Since we are seeing things that Quaid could'nt possibly see, like the emergency alarm at the agency, discussions between other characters, and so on, it has to be something that can't be happening only in Quaid's mind.
