Re: Daniel Craig

Never Say Never Again was a remake of Thunderball with an almost elderly James Bond thrown in. It was okay in the day, very camp today. It was released a couple of months after Octopussy and is inferior in just about every way.

There's also the Bond spoof Casino Royale which was also not a Broccoli/MGM film and hence not an official film.

Connery and Cubby Broccoli were actually very close until the early 1980's when it became clear that the Bond franchise would continue to earn profits in the emerging VHS market. Connery petitioned for a percentage of the profits from his 5 Bond outings and Broccoli refused. Connery jumped on the opportunity to play Bond for a competing producer as a form of payback and the two were very bitter to one another right up until Broccoli died in the late 1990's and even went so far as to snub him post-mortem by refusing to be a part of any of the Broccoli/Bond memorials.

Connery has often spoken begrudingly about his experience making the Bond movies and how doing so pigeonholed him as an actor for two decades. Most of it seems like sour grapes. Bond made Connery, period.

The real question, how the hell do I know so much about all this? No idea, been a huge Bond fan since I was 8 years old.

Re: Daniel Craig

I would actually now be very interested to hear Connery's honest take on Craig's turn.

It's bound to be interesting if it's anything like his honest opinion of Cubby Broccolli

Re: Daniel Craig

I doubt you could drag any opinion of James Bond at all out of Sean Connery. He's pretty much snubbed the series and the character for the past 20 years. That's why it was so ridiculous when the rumors of Connery playing Bond's father came out serveral years back!

As for Craig, I don't know. He was very good as the lean, mean, hotheaded secret agent wannabe in Casino Royale but can he pull off a more sophisticated James Bond? The jury is out. Maybe 2-3 films in we'll know.

Re: Daniel Craig

I watched Casino Royale the other night.

I must say as an action film it was 10/10 but Craig doesnt carry Bond off at all, yes he's rugged but that's it.

I'm sorry but the guy's pug ugly, at least Connery still looked good in a Tux Craig looked like he'd just nicked it out of Burtons.

Also where were the nudedancers in the title sequence? I dunno maybe after a couple more he might settle into the roll it's still too early to decide. One very good thing was the stupid gadgets wernt in it, They always spoiled it for me hence hating Moores Bond.
