Campbell wrote the original story back in the 30's. Nexus_6 posted it here

Re: Is "John Carpenter's 'THE THING' " Really Over?

This may not be adequate info but I'll post it anyway. In the recent "The Thing" game they set up the plot a month or two after the movie ended. Anyhow, you get to investigate the small cabin at the end of the movie. You find the body of Childs but there is no McGrady. The infection has spread possibly by McGrady?? Maybe he is the Thing after all and Childs is human?

I think this may be the most interesting interpretation.

They electrocuted the monster and and killed it that way. Then they finally got someone on the radio and told them to watch the skies. That was it.

There is a comic book adaption that continues the story of The Thing (Carpenter version.) Think Dark Horse did that one.

I enjoyed the John Carpenter ending because it allowed the powers that be to make a game.

P.S. If you are still on this, I am an Englishman living in America

Re: Is "John Carpenter's 'THE THING' " Really Over?

Childs was infected by the Thing. Watch the very last scene in the movie. When Kurt Russell is talking, it looks like he's smoking due to the arctic temperatures. When Childs speaks, his breath is not effected by the temperature whatsoever. The reason Childs didn't kill him was because they both realized they were going to freeze to the death, and there was no point.
