Re: Best Bond Actor?

"In reality"? What a strange reality you inhabit. That may be your opinion and that is fine, but don't get excited thinking that somehow you have revealed the "true reality" to everyone. We can discuss the pros and cons of each actor ad infinitum and every one of the actors has their fans who think their version was best. Great. I hope it is a discussion that continues for another forty years with several more actors added to the list. And there still won't be one that everyone thinks is "in reality" the best.

James Bond is more than just looks. Otherwise they could use an empty tuxedo there (with Kevin Bacon's voice... ).

Re: Best Bond Actor?

Sean Connery gets my vote as No1 so far.
As for future Bonds',they have got it tough.
Used to be Bond movies had the biggest explosions, the best locations, etc.
Added to whatever actor was present in the movie, regardless.
Don't think that is the case in the last few of the series.
One thing the older Bond movies could never be acucused of was looking cheap or budgeted.
Some of the latest one's do,in my opinion.
Maybe I'm just jaded.

Re: Best Bond Actor?

I think you must be jaded. I recently saw a TV thing with top voted action moments from the films and the more recent ones stand up quite well. Brosnan starting by having to do a car chase - except he is in a tank. The current one with car chases across ice and through ice palaces as well as lots of other big action. Seems to me they make a particular point of trying very hard to be at the front of action movies in stunts, locations, gadgets and all the rest. Whatever the competition does, I think Bond movies still look like the effort has gone into them.

I WOULD SAY THAT BROSNAN IS THE BEST FOLLOWED CLOSE BY BROSNAN. THEY SAY THAT BROSNAN WILL ONLY MAKE 1-2 MORE MOVIES THEN THATS IT. SO I HOPE THAT THE NEXT BOND IS JUST AS GOOD OR BETTER.

Question Mixed Feelings All Around to be Sure

I, too, grew up with Roger Moore as Bond, but will always love Sean Connery to be sure. Timothy Dalton was too intense if you ask me, but I do happen to like Pierce Brosnan.... he had a very slick 21st century Bond style (if that makes sense).

I think my favorite Bond movie though was Moonraker (scifi freak... DUH!)

"Heartbroken Mr. Dax... simply heartbroken" *snigger*

Hugh Jackman as the new Bond... I dunno... it does have potential to be sure.

I'll know it's the sign of the Apocalypse when they get Alec Baldwin to do it ::SHUDDER::

I think Hugh Jackman is great in all his roles, but I just don't think he's the right guy to play 007.

I also think Pierce Brosnan is great as Bond at this time although my dad doesn't like him much as 007. But than again he is used to Roger Moore and Sean Connery.

I have to agree with you there upon thinking about it. He's too "new" ya know? I don't care how great an actor the new Brat Pack has... they have to be... well... seasoned to play Bond.

Nuff Said!

Moore's Bond always seemed like a joke. Although they were good action movies, they didn't seem like Bond. They were more like Mat Helm

Re: Best Bond Actor?

Personally, my favourite Bond actor is Timothy Dalton. One thing I don't think people take into account is when the 80's rolled around and AIDS became a World-Wide issue, they had to tone down the whole promiscuous sex angle which was littered in the other films. Couple that with the fact Dalton returned to the hard nosed Bond from the source material, I think that is a few of the reasons people get turned off by his performance.

The Living Daylights IMHO has some of the best action sequences in any Bond film, although the rest of the film was highly mundane.

But my favourite Bond film has to be Licence To Kill. I think this Bond film (along with OHMSS) delves into the Bond character a little more. The revenge angle with Felix Leiter and the vendetta against Sanchez while disobeying M- 16 is quite compelling. This is where Die Another Day should have ventured off into, rather than leaving the whole sub-plot unattended. Robert Davi and Benicio Del Toro were amazing villains considering the usual larger than life, rule the world with my scientific device villain the films usaully have.

Licence To Kill had many weak points as well, it was by no means the greatest Bond film but I feel it had alot of potential to really be a great film. There are a few bright spots but I think Die Another Day really had the oppertunity to follow in the footsteps of Licence To Kill and deliver a harder-edge film.

Re: Best Bond Actor?

I heard they were looking into tapping a new Bond actor then I hear that Brosnan is in talks to do one more.

The names they threw around were all young, barely established actors. Brosnan was in his late 40's when he first took on the role so I think they are looking at getting someone considerably younger.

I must admit that the Bond series, despite it's juvenile and predictable tenants, is one my weaknesses. I love all of them with very few exceptions (Moonraker is about the only one I can hardly stomach) and hope this franchise doesn't die anytime soon.
