Re: For Those Seeing X3 This Weekend

No joke and will do. She is my all time favorite character from way back in the comic book series. I'm dressing like her in the yellow attire. I dressed like Amidala for my birthday last year since opening night was my birthday. It makes the experience even more exciting. I've got pictures of that I'll post in Pilots chat if anyone wants to see them and laugh.

Okay, so does anyone want to discuss the post-credits scene?

SPOILER WARNING!!!

I stopped reading the comic book around 1988, both Professor X and Phoenix/Jean Gray were very much alive along with Cyclops/Scott Summers. Was this new development in the case of Prof. X a comic storyline (like Dark Phoenix)? And what's behind this decision to turn the reins of the Xavier School over to Storm?

Personally, it seems clear that there are 3-4 specific story arcs that were left intentionally unresolved in lieu of a 4th film: 1) Rogue giving up her powers, 2) Magneto regaining his, 3) Professor X tranferring his consciousness, 4) Maybe Cyclops not being dead...after all, we really didn't see him die. Oh, and then for all you romantics out there, we have the unresolved love triangle between Iceman/Rogue/KittyPryde.

Yeah, X4 is a lock.

SPOILER WARNING!

The ending scene after the credits was a bit too Star Treky to me. Like Spock mind melding with McCoy and Data downloading his memories into B4.

As for the scenes at the end of the movie, there were big differencesbetween it and the novel. Rogue didn't go through the demutantization, Magneto wasn't alone in his chess game at the end, MacTaggart (the women that Xavier says 'hello Moira' to at the end) showed up and told him that she could help him in the recovery of his powers, and Beast didn't become the ambassador for the UN. He decided to join the school as a professor to the students.

Also in the middle of the book, Jean was having vision concerning Scott and the past and it made inferences to Jean being able to reconstitute and bring Scott back from the dead herself.

As for Rogue, when I watched that scene near the end of the movie I honestly expected to see her grab Iceman, start making out then the camera would pan over to the bald headed kid laying under the bed playing Gameboy or something. I never figured she gave up her powers.

Of all the shortchanged characters, Jean got the shortest stick, even moreso that Cyclops. I get the idea there was supposed to be this conflict between Jean and Phoenix but it was barely shown. Even when she was Phoenix (which was 99% of the time), she just stood around and looked really mad. Did she join the brotherhood or did she not? Was she on Alacatraz to help them overrun the facility or was she not? And this whole gut wrenching deal with Logan killing her - did it not cross his or mister Phd Beast's mind to try the mutant antidote on her rather than kill her?

The novelization did far better with Jean than the movie did, we actually get to read what is going through her mind regularly, flashbacks, her thoughts on what Magneto is doing, her plans, etc.

We also see Wolverine's attack on Jean is far more graphic, her telekinesis taking Logan almost down to the adamantium skeleton. We also know that a thought like getting close enough to Jean with the cure wouldn't work, she'd know it was coming.
