I am halfway through watching it, very awesome movie. I love Tetsuo's angst, it is a symbol of hate and destructive power. Akira.... such a powerful force. I hope the rest of the movie is this good.

I consider this movie extremly good. But still waeker then Ghost in a shell. Akira raises many interesting questions abourt ESP, and mutation. Maybe the last "organic part" was a bit to much but overal it had prety good ending.

PS: "Is this a birth of a new universe"

The part at the end with the overgrown mass of whatever freaked me out. I was so amazed at the power Tetsuo had achieved. He played his role very well. Kaneda was very good too.

It's amazing how you guys can praise a movie, but at the same time make it sound like a complete bore.

Re: Good or Bad?

I would never, EVER consider Akira a bore. I admit that it was very loosely based around a fine set of mangas that were, in theory, better than the movie, but never to the point of boredom. NEVER!

One of my favorite elements of the movie is the sound effects used. Whenever Tetsuo uses his power on a large scale, you hear the "DOM! DOM! DOMDOM!" sound clips. Those make it a great movie.

Re: Good or Bad?

For a while I couldn't tell what was dream and what was real. How would just being exposed to the kid make Tetsuo develop those powers?

Re: Good or Bad?

That wasn't the only reason.

Everyone has latent psychic ability to begin with. The power resides within everyone. It just has to be triggered and fueled in order to work. Take Tetsuo for example, he collided with Takashi and then was taken to the government center where he was given 'the drug.' This drug was to bring out his powers. Unfortunately, the drug, which had been administered to the "children" left them with crippling deformities. For Tetsuo, he wanted more power, o he had to find Akira.

Helping any? If you want the whole low-down, PM me.

Re: Good or Bad?

That helps. Why would he Have to find Akira for more power? Couldn't he slow down his development and learn to control it to use it more effectivly then it would be more powerful.

Re: Good or Bad?

I never called myself an expert. And no, I have not just seen the dubbed version of the movie.
I have seen the horrible dubbed version released first on VHS (by Manga Entertainment, I believe), which was butchered when I saw the Japanese version, subtitled.

Then I saw the much-beter dubbed Pioneer Special Edition DVD, which is just plain awesome.

I own all 6 mangas (that's almost $150 there buddy), have read them countless times.

I own the action figures.

I talk to numerous people about the story.

And No, I don't consider myself an expert.

And Yes, I consider Katsuhiro Otomo a hero.

(For another really good anime, check out Perfect Blue. Special Advisor Katsuhiro Otomo, added help from makers of Ninja Scroll.)

And No, I don't consider myself an expert.
