The Dark Knight

Latest news on the next installment of the Batman series. Looks like Heath Ledger is indeed cast in the role of The Joker. Still scratching my head over this one.

Quote:
Batman Sequel Is Dark Knight

Warner Brothers announced that its upcoming sequel to 2005's hit Batman Begins will be called The Dark Knight and will feature Heath Ledger as the Joker.

Christopher Nolan is set to direct from a script by Jonathan Nolan, based on a story by Christopher Nolan and David Goyer, who both wrote the screenplay for the previous film. Christian Bale, who played Bruce Wayne/Batman in Batman Begins, will again play the Caped Crusader. Emma Thomas, Charles Roven and Christopher Nolan will produce.

"I'm excited to continue the story we started with Batman Begins," Christopher Nolan said in a statement. "Our challenge in casting the Joker was to find an actor who is not just extraordinarily talented, but fearless. Watching Heath Ledger's interpretation of this iconic character taking on Christian Bale's Batman is going to be incredible." Production is set to begin on The Dark Knight in early 2007.

The Dark Knight appears to be an allusion to Frank Miller's groundbreaking 1986 graphic novel Batman: The Dark Knight Returns, which redefined the character with a darkly psychological take and paved the way for subsequent comic and film interpretations of him, including Tim Burton's gothic Batman film in 1989.

Re: The Dark Knight

I just read FM's Dark Knight for the first time and really liked it. The Joker seems kind of urban sexual (leg's crossed, smoking cigarette, aloof, elegant, lipstick), I think is what they call it. I wonder if Heath Ledger will go that interpretation.

[EDIT]: I found this:

Quote:
Heath Ledger has revealed that his take on the Joker in the upcoming "Batman Begins" sequel will be far removed from Jack Nicholson's portrayal of the villainous character.

"It's definitely going to stump people," he told The Toronto Sun.

"I think it'll be more along the lines of how the Joker was meant to be in the comics, darker and more sinister... but it's obviously not going to be what Jack Nicholson did. It's going to be more nuanced and dark and more along the lines of 'A Clockwork Orange' kind of feel. Which is, I think, what the comic book was after: less about his laugh and more about his eyes."

The film, which has been officially titled "The Dark Knight", will be released in June 2008.

Re: The Dark Knight

Pictures of Ledger as The Joker have inevitably been surfacing - new Empire has one, different to this one that I've found at this site :

Whether it's official or not, it's certainly interesting... and much more sinister than Jack's beloved but admittedly (though it pains me to say it) hammy performance (I can't help it, I love scenery-chewing villains )

I like it, but it doesn't look like Ledger. LOVED the freaky mask face on the hype-builder website though. Have they updated that yet?

Re: The Dark Knight

No idea - I read about the hype-builder-site buty never got round to visiting it.

Splend away!

<<sits for a few moments then clicks open a new tab>>

EDIT : Harvey Dent is Aaron Eckhart? Two-Face, presumably, is Aaron Eckhart? Black Dahlia Eckhart? Hmmm. Well, he wasn't the worst thing in that, so ok, benefit of the doubt...

DOUBLE EDIT : Aaaw, the second one is 'page not found'. Nuts. Empire led me astray! I want my money back!

TRIPLE EDIT : OOOH! Pressed Ctrl+A and saw lots and lots and lots of 'Ha's! That Joker, he crazy!

It... looks a bit more Tim Burton-y than the Tim Burton Joker was. Weird.

Re: The Dark Knight

That isn't Heath Ledger, that's Conrad Veidt from an old movie 'The Man Who Laughs', (based on a book by Victor Hugo), it's just been touched up to look modern.

Here's the original image

Re: The Dark Knight

Certainly had me fooled- I thought it was probably a VERY good make up job to hide Ledger's Ledger-ness.

<<looks at pic>>

Hang on ... this film was featured in The Black Dahlia,. wasn't it ... it's flooding back to me ... damn, I'm having Dahlia-flashbacks ... incoherant messes ... pointless idiocy ... wooden acting ... help!

Ok, all gone now

Batcycle/batpod

joker

tie-in website
http://ibelieveinharveydent.warnerbros.com/

there used to be a "ibelieveinharveydenttoo site, which reveled the joker.

as for the man who laughs fake, well, lets face the joker was based upon the character in that movie, so it was only a matter of time before someone updated it in an attempt to fool people.
