Filmation's Pinocchio and The Emperor of the Night (1987), anyone seen this?
It's a highly underrated animated fantasy movie from the makers of "He-Man", "Bravehstarr", "She-Ra" and "Fat Albert" about a mysterious creepy carnival that comes to town, Pinocchio just celebrated his first year as a human with a birthday party and must do an assigment for his dad Gheppeto. He must deliver a jewel box to the mayor then later he gets cheated by a scandlous raccoon con-artist and his monkey assistant for a worthless fake ruby. It pisses his dad off so much that he runs away to join the carnival as he falls for a beautiful girl puppet, an evil puppeteer named Puppetino changes him back into a puppet but later is rescued by his fairy godmother. He escapes the carnival to find the two con-artists that swindled him earlier to go after the traveling carnival to get the jewel box back only to end up in the empire of the night conducted by the evil Emperor.
featuring the voices of James Earl Jones, Don Knotts, Scott Grimes, and Tom Bosley with Ed Asner and stunning animation considering it's better then any Filmation production. It's very dark at times too such as Pinocchio changing into a puppet and being tortured by Puppetino, i remember seeing this at the movies when it came out in winter 1987 and it sure scared the bejesus out of me.
Great underrated animated movie that i highly recommend and it's on Youtube.com
