Re: Crap!

the ending with the "lets forget"

the fact that everything was increadably ovisious but they were all supposidly to bright to realise

the pychology of the whole plot, which was baseless

the book was bad enough, micheal crichtons only good work was Jurrasic Park...

Jurassic Park was terrible!

I don't like Sphere or any of his other novels, either.

Rhe movies were even worse.

Re: Crap!

I liked it because the acting was good--but I have to agree with you all on the plot: there were so many gaps in logic that it was nonsensical. It was not a "whole" movie in that sense.
But I like Sharon Stone, Dustin Hoffman, Samuel L. Jackson, AND Queen Latifah--so does that mean I can be sold doodoo in a dixie cup and think its hot stuff in a golden goblet?

I liked the movie for those same reasons.

It never occured to me that the movie is crap. There wasn't any bad smell emanating from it.

Maybe I'll take another look.

I disagree. I believe that "Sphere" is Micheal Crichton's only BAD book.

The book "Sphere" is so bad that I have not seen the movie nor do i care to see the movie.

Re: Crap!

Well, cabalacomb, if you like Crichton's work, you should at least give it a one time thru. It has an all star cast, and I thought they acted the parts well.

I dont read Crichton. I prefer to watch.

I thought the book was fine, but the movie on the other hand made no sense half the time.

Never read the book, but the movie was just too 'soft' for me, especially when Event Horizon was around to compare it to.

Re: Crap!

Well, I didnt think of Sphere as "soft" per se, but now that you mention it, it was not at all a "terror" film. When watching it, not knowing the ending, I found it to be more sinister and eerie rather than pyschologically chilling and terror-filled (like EH).

Still, I enjoyed the light humor entertwined with psychological unknown. I think there are several films of that calibre, mainly the "Mars" films:

Red Planet
Mission to Mars
Sphere
Alien Hunter
Etc.

All of these films seem to deal not so much with a decided Evil force, but with an ambivalent Mother Nature type force. Silent, beautiful, and DEADLY.

I think of these as "discovery" films.

Re: Crap!

Me too, for the most part.

Although, I did enjoy Sphere, immensely. Enough to watch again.

The Mars films? Ugh. I did not mind them when watching them (at first) because I kept waiting for the punch line.....only there is no punch line. At least with Sphere there was an ultimate conclusion, bland though it may have been.
