Re: And now, books...

Ok.

I've placed the thread about music.

Now what about books? What are you reading, and what wereyour favorites?

I'm reading "Secret Soldier", about a Israeli Commando.

My favorite books are anything by Tolkien, the "Thrawn" Trilogy by Timothy Zhan, and the "Gaunt's Ghosts" series of Warhammer 40K novels

Re: And now, books...

Allright, Tinny, if you're serious about the Book of the Dead, I assume you mean the Liber Mortis. Is that right? Where did you get it? Are you a fellow Necromancer? if so, read the Grimoire Necronium. You won't find better material about necromancy.

Also, the Necronomicon is said to be about Necromancy, but there are only 3 copies in exitence. Curious fact: it is said that whoever reads the Necronomicon will go insane, because the book is said to hold undisputed proof of a future where the Undead rule a ravaged world. Curiously enough, one of the possesors of one of the copies of the Necronomicon was none other than H. P. Lovecraft. And he got mad and killed himself. Also, after he acquired the book, ALL of his work features the Necronomicon as a centrpiecefor world destruction. Coincidence? I assure you, I'm not making any of this stuff up. I've studied Death for a long time. It started out of fear, and turned into an obssession.

Re: And now, books...

ahem "The book of the dead" is a collection of horror stories from writers such as Stephen King. Robert R. McCammon and Ramsey Campbell.

The book is pretty graphic but I like it, the only horror I actually got really into...hehe guessed who forwarded it. George. A Romero.

PS. If I had the Book of the Dead (true ver.) I am not going to tell you am I? hehe.

heard there was a one somewhere in the Middle East...true?

Re: And now, books...

I do not know the whereabouts of any copy of the book. I'd like to, though.

All I know, and where you probably got mixed up, is that it was written in Araby by a Scheik, during the Middle Ages.

I'm currently reading the fourth & last 'Harry Potter' book to date & it's taking longer than i planned to finish it because I've not had as much time as I would like to be able to read it.

Will be reading four books by my favourite author next!!!!!!!!!!

Re: And now, books...

I try to be reading at least three books at any one time. I keep them in various places around my house and I usually have one I keep at work for breaks.

I am currently reading:
Alexander of Macedon, 356-323 A Historical Biography of Alexander the Great by Peter Green. I have fourteen pages left.

Paul A novelized biography of The Apostle Paul by Walter Wangerin Jr.

I am re-reading The Gormenghast Triology by Mervyn Peake. I am about half way through Titus Groan.

Purple Cane Road by a friend of mine, James Lee Burke.

Re: And now, books...

I thought I'd resurrect this thread, seeing as we have a last movie thread, perhaps it'd be nice to have a last book read thread also.

I'm just started reading Dean Koontz latest offering "Odd Thomas". I've been a fan for years but the last book I read by him "By the light of the Moon" blew me away. I started reading it over dinner one evening and was superglued to my chair for three hours.

I'm a crime fiction fan and I like to test out newbies so I picked up a book called "24 karat schmooze" by Marc Blake. It's set in England and follows a variety of dodgy characters around, looks quite funny.

My faves for that kind of thing are Carl Hiaasen and Elmore Leonard. And the indomitable Ed McBain.

I really must read LOTR. I've never tried but that shall be my goal this year sometime.

Re: And now, books...

Nice one.

Right, I finished reading (yesterday) "The Flying Tigers", about the American Volunteer Group in China, a small fighter group fighting against Japan as mercenaries before Pearl Harbor was attacked.

Currently I'm reading "What If", a book written by several historians about some events that might have gone the other way. For example, what if Christ hadn't been crucified? What if the Greeks lost at the Battle of Salamis? What if WWII ended in 1944? What if Lenin stayed out of the Russian Revolution?

For anyone even mildly interested in history, this book is simply fascinating, and with historians such as Steven Ambrose, you can't go wrong. There's also a sequel "More What If", that I'll be reading after this one.

On the same note, I'm just about finished with Scott Adam's "the Dilbert Principle". Funny book.

I felt dummy, so I took a trip to the library. I'm reading Richard Shusterman's Pragmatist Aesthetics: Living Beauty, Rethinking Art and a copy dictionary of foreign words. I recommend same kind of visit to everyone who realises that people around have started to speak in other tongue....

Re: And now, books...

you guys really shouldn't have these lists LOL Here's my book Collection, however, many of my Star Trek books have yet to be written up on this. But I have almost all the ST books that were in numerical order, from the original series to Voyager. However, when they stopped numbering them, I kind of fell out of buying and reading them

Re: And now, books...

It seems 90% of your collection are movie or TV series adaptations.

That means you're a looney.

Anyway, I'm not going to put up a full list of my books, but suffice it to say, most are WWII aviation, SF, military history and techno-thrillers.

Re: And now, books...

OptimusPrime75 our reading is pretty close only I think I have slightly more Star Wars than you but none of Star Trek. Other than that I have almost all of the Aliens books plus Predator and Of course Aliens vs. Predator.

And Iwata of the three Books of the Dead I only know were two are said to be. One is in Egypt in the Valley of the Dead, or under the right foot of the sphinx which I doubt. The second was suppose to belong to King Solomon which was hiden some were in his city. Good luck finding it.

Did I mention I was into Demonology?
