Thread of 2005 remake flaws

Dont' get me wrong, I loved the move. As with any movie there were some interesting inconsistencies. I'll start ...

I'm glad *somebody's* camera was working after all the electronic equipment in the city was fried. Scene where tripod is first is seen emerging from the ground and starts obliterating humans. People take pictures. One video camera is lying on the group and you see a scene happen through its viewer.

Question flying clothes?

Why can't a death-ray that can disintegrate humans NOT destroy the clothes they are wearing?

If the death-ray can't destroy clothes why was there No underwear flying through the air along with all the shirts and jeans?

Question Stupid humans

When the space ship is about to attack why does everyone rush to get on the boat? Isn't it obvious, to all these stupid humans, that the ship will be the first target of the martian space ship? Personally, once I saw a martian spaceship near by I would want to be as far away from the ferry boat as possible.

Awww a Happy Ending. "barf!"

Awwww isn't it so nice to see that Tom Cruise's boy is still alive, and totally unharmed, at the end of the movie. What a heartwarming reunion as Tom returns his daughter to his ex-wife and discovers his son, who he feared dead, is alive and well. What a heartwarming family reunion as Tom is reunited with his son and ex-wife at the home of his ex-inlaws, grandma & grandpa's house. A house which is undamaged on a street that show no signs of damage from the martian invasion. And they lived happily ever after, The End.

"barf!"

Experience....this was the second time round for the grand parents - They were the hero and romantic lead from the orginal. If I wasn't feeling lazy I would look their names up for you

Steven Spielberg: why oh why oh why must he always insist on predictable happy-family endings in his films for gawd's sake!

Re: Thread of 2005 remake flaws

I was interested in how the setting was completely different (Martians rise from ground) in the movie to the book (Martians arrive from space in tubes), and found this well-written short story which provides a link between the two settings, as well as an interesting view of the invasion; written from the martians' perspective. Some sophisticated narration techniques that you'll have to get your head around, but after that it provides a good link between the book and movie.
