more than a remake?

I watched War of the Worlds last night and the first hour is awesome. Trully war of the worlds style with the aliens destroying everything and anything, and only the lucky few escaping a unstoppable death ray. The military was shown just enough, although I would have liked to see the battle on the hill a little better. Again, first 60 minutes amazing.

Now... the second half kinda slows down and goes into survival mode. Tom, tim, and dakota stuck in a basment frequently hiding from alien probes and searches all the while Tim wanting to fight back, and Tom saying no dont. this is the tollerable part of the second hour.

Afterwards when they get out and fianlly make their way to Boston, somthing happens, the destruction stops. When you see it you'll also notice how nothing goes untouched in the other areas the aliens come into. Boston is untouched. all the building in the neighborhood are untouched. only the leaves and garbage cans are knocked about. it was as if they ran out of money to make it look like somthing happened that we should care about. the most untolerable part though is that not only do they find the mom/ex-wife, her new fiancee is gone, her parents are alive, and so is the god dammed son who walked into a battle where the only thing to come out were burning hummvees! WTF!? How dare you make this a happy movie with familal reunion! you killed that sonofa*****! how could he get to Boston faster out of a zone that was completly destroyed over hundreads of miles?! gah! worst part of the whole movie.

Nostalga wise, this is a very very good movie. its still a good movie without the original in mind. I was very entertained, but the charactors story endded horribly.

***************SPOILERS ALERT************************

****************SPOILERS AHEAD***********************

ok you were warned.

Im sorry Tack but I thought the whole movie was a pile of sh!t.

The whole broken family storyline was crap they didnt need to do that it would have been much better if it was Cruise trying to get to his wife. They banged in the family plot line so Spielberg could cast his golden girl Dakota Fanning.

The only bit I liked in the first 60 minutes was the way the ground broke up in circle and you saw the front of the church slide around as it "Unscrewed". The heat ray was a joke I mean it hits you and "POOF" you disappear in a cloud of dust while your clothes float away on the breeze (Fvcking Sh!t)

The boat scene was ok but it woulda been better if we saw a couple of ppl chopped up by the spinning propeller.

Tim Robbins must have been hard up for cash to take that role he got on my tits and the whole "Cover your ears and dont remove the blindfold while singing a lullaby" was wank he walks in (obviously killing robbins) then walkes out, at least have the martians drag him out as the book describes and save tom being the killer.

Yep the escape and after a laughable moment in a martian basket we hit Boston and mummy and son are ok ( )

ok in a word this movie is Wank....read the book or buy/rent the 1950's version its much more entertaining......
