Pilot's Mess [chit-chat zone]

This is the forum to get to know your fellow pilots and the ONLY place to talk about everything else not really relevant to sci-fi movies, including your personal loves and interests. A true pilot doesn't discuss these issues while on duty.

Re: Carbomb suspect pled guilty to WHAT?!

Well, I didn't intend to insinuate that the meaning of WMD doesn't matter at all, I was simply looking at the real issue: a terrorist was setting out to murder a multitude of people.

When you use the term "white" I can't help but feel that you are trying to make us feel guilty about something, like we bring these things on ourselves. Maybe not.

Re: Carbomb suspect pled guilty to WHAT?!

Ha. Would conspiracy to manslaughter be better?

I think America is still seen as a white country, and so are most developed nations, where as 3rd world nations are seen as brown or yellow or other countries. Race still is an issue in America. Now whether or not the direct targeting of whites was happening I don't think so. He just wanted to kill Americans, which comes back to the presumption of America being a white nation.

but what's your opinion of these anti-government militia types in, Ohio (?), that were arrested and held without being charged for saying they were going to execute attacks on the US government and owning a lot of legal guns...neither of which are or were crimes when they were arrested?
Nothing unusual there, but that **** only becomes a cause célèbre when it happens to white people. For some reason, I never see Robert F. Williams (my personal 2nd amendment hero) trotted out as an example of how the state treats gun owners.

You use the term "White," very often as a blanket term for Americans.
I do not use it as a 'blanket term.' I use it as the term to refer to the population that the state has traditionally shown the most interest in protecting. You should know by now that as far as the dominant cultural narrative goes, the white male with disposable income is the 'default person.'

That doesn't jive with your original premise. If these individuals had been black or Hispanic, then you suggest it would have been a non-story? Isn't that the opposite of what you imply about the Time Square bomber? Because he is not white and he threatened white people, because, lets face it, New York is made up of nothing but whitey's, he's being persecuted?

I don't think that it would inspire white NRA-types so much, no. It would be a 'story,' but it would be a rather differently reported one.

I actually have no idea what you're trying to say.

Oh I see. You're twisting my words. That is a fun game to play, I'll grant you that.

Manipulating these meanings can be a very nice tool for collective control. Especially if this spurious usage isn't challenged.
This is me chief concern with this usage.
