Some people don't know John Carpenter's version is a remake?

Tsk tsk tsk, i ask people about if they knew that The Thing from 1982 was a remake? and some say i didn't know and thought it was original. Well they are un-film educuated you know.

It was not necessarily a remake as such. It was most certainly another adaptation of the same John W. Campbell short story that inspired the 50's film. I am not sure if a re-adaptation is necessarily a "remake."

Also the fifties version was awful. The monster was a mix between frankenstein and a plant

The Carpenter film avoided the dreaded Man In A Rubber Suit Syndrome through the clever use of robotics and pyrotechnics. ROBOTICS AND PYROTECHNICS FTW!

Why bother to call it "The Thing" and not "Who Goes There" if it's not a remake? i wish they called it "Who goes There" then it wouldn't have upsetted fans of the original back.
