Exclamation the truth behind Starfighter

I don't think some of you really get the point--and you're missing what is truly great about The Last Starfighter. It's not the trite storyline or the hackneyed plot devices; it's not the graphics, which clearly show their age (although at time, the fully digital sequences were in fact revolutionary and ground-breaking); and it's cetainly not the acting, which ranged from acceptable to stilted. No, the true greatness of this flick--which I have watched perhaps a hundred times over the past decade and a half--is this:

Alex: "I'm just a kid from a trailer park."
Centauri: "If that's what you think, then that's all you'll ever be."

A movie that is fun to watch while at the same time delivering an uplifting message that can be taken to heart by anyone, no matter their station in life--and avoid becoming a buddy flick, chick flick, or pandering-to-the-youth-market flick--has achieved something very rare in cinematic history. This is why those who love this film feel so strongly about it, and why they'll watch it again and again.
