Final Fantasy VII: Advent Children
From: http://screenwriting.ugo.com/news/09...#ffviithemovie
Final Fantasy 7: The Movie? Film News Square Entertainment(or, as I still haven't gotten used to saying, Square-Enix)'s reputation is a double-edged sword. To gamers, Square is responsible for some of the best games in existence, one that's possibly THE best (Final Fantasy 7, though Zelda: Ocarina of Time fans might beg to differ...) However, to film buffs, Square was responsible for the biggest box office flop of the decade (until Gigli stole the title), Final Fantasy: The Spirits Within. But after the film receiving a bit of a second life on DVD (it made back its budget and then some due to home video sales), as well as the studio receiving quite a bit of praise for the Animatrix short, Final Flight Of The Osiris, it looks like Square's ready to try their hand at a feature again. But this time, the studio is treading on far more hallowed territory. Various sources are reporting from Japan that Square is planning on releasing a brand-new feature length CG film sequel to the aforementioned Final Fantasy 7, a.k.a. arguably the best game ever made. Not much is known about the film, subtitled Advent Children, aside from the fact that it takes place two years after the events of the game (it's unknown exactly which ending the film will be picking up from, the one right after the One-Winged Angel showdown,, or the Red XIII ending), Cloud will undoubtedly be the central character again, and that, damned if I know how, Sephiroth will be returning as well. We also know that rather than make the theatrical jump so early again, this release will be an OVA (for the uninitiated, OVA means straight-to-video, but with several times more respect than what straight-to-video means here in the States.) , however, it's not uncommon nowadays for highly anticipated anime titles to get small-run theatrical treatment, and there's definitely that possibility with this. As of this moment, though, no stateside announcements have been made yet. -- Justin Poster: http://www.watch.impress.co.jp/game/...30926/se08.jpg Screenshots: http://www.the-magicbox.com/game092503a.htm ------------------------------------------------------- Other stuff: http://www.aol.co.uk/totalgames/cs/ps/feat/f18324.html |

Re: Final Fantasy VII: Advent Children
I agree, either this will be a big success, or it will flop. Their first mistake with a movie was ripping off ff7s story and converting it to Spirits'. I honestly think if they had actually done 7 instead, it would have been a success. As with this, this isn't the first time Final Fantasy has been in movie format; before Spirits I mean. FF7, I believe, came out as an anime a long time ago. And there have been other FF Animes. I've seen a couple of them in Gamming stores. Man I wish I could recall their names. I think one was a Tactics anime. Anybody remember? I'll see if I can find them.
Edit: I did find a couple, here. Last edited by Kieraganion : Dec 23, 2003 at 06:11 PM. |

Re: Final Fantasy VII: Advent Children
meh,..... this isn't exactly anything new......
i've known about this, since before it was officially announced.... I think anyone who actually cares about Final fantasy and the games, Knew.... to be honest, I think there will be three main problems, or well, disliked features about this.... 1) the voices.... they'll probably cast totally wrong people for Cloud and Sephiroth 2) FFX, got a true game seqaul..... And among FF fans, 10, is the least liked.... so Why the ****ing hell, does the best ff game get only a movie sequal, when the worst gets a whole new game..... Square-Enix sure screwed that up 3) Cloud's new look, is bad.... his hair is horrible, and Sephiroth's hair isn't much better |
