Angry Two threads down. Freedom Hater

Get a load of "Mortivale" two threads down. Here is a guy saying that A clockwork orange deserves an X rating. He also thinks it doesnt even belong on the regular shelves in the video store. If he had his way, this movie would be illegal to watch. You will have to read this nut's ramblings and make up your own minds but I submit to you That A Clockwork Organge is a masterful movie! Yes it is violent, But I have witnessed more blood and guts and violance, in hundreds of other movies, than exibited here in Clockwork. Yes there are scenes of rape, and it is not pretty or easy to watch, but I say that rape is something that was never ment to be pretty and easy to watch. I have seen other movies that had equal or even more intence sences of rape, like Jodie Foster in the movie "The Accused", than the ones exhibited in Clockwork. As for the "Threesome" sex scene. Come on. The three of them go at it in fast forward, so you can barely make out there privates. Also the entire scene is done to score of The William Tell Overture! It is hillarious! NOT PORNOGRAPHIC!
Look, I know this movie is not everones cup of tea. If you watch it and decide it is putrid. That is your opinion and you are welcome to it. However, jerks like this guy to threads down, want to not only lambaste this film but take away our right to decide for ourselves. It seems odd to me that if "A Clockwork Orange" is just pointless violent, pornographic trash. Why, for over three decades, have allmost all reputable critics and millions over people hailed it as a masterpiece?

So watch "A Clockwork Orange" and more importantly, YOU be the judge.

Oh, and Mortivale. In the immortal words of Dim the droog. "Yarbarles! Great Buldging Yarbarles to you!"

Should that description really be applied to a rape scene?

Isn't the problem with this film that some have taken it that way and trivialized the act of rape?

Horrific... shocking... disturbing. Those are terms that should be applied to depictions of rape.

'Hillarious' ? No. That is where your logic breaks down.

As does the whole 'watch it and find out for yourself'.

You don't have to inject rat poison to know that it's not good for you. Likewise, people should not be criticized for deciding not to watch a film because they have learned of its contents and do not wish to see it.

You talk about freedom, yet your argument wages against that. You try to force, by ridicule and peer pressure, everyone into agreeing with you.

will some other people understand that its a film, a harmless piece of fiction with no moral code to hold too.. its only trivialized if it dosn't convince you.

Re: Two threads down. Freedom Hater

That, sadly, is the problem. That's also why I said 'some'.

It's also pretty much the only issue I have with that film, and others like it.

Some dip****s take it that way and glorify the violence. I, personally, prefer the second half of the film where he learns the error of his ways with cruel and unusual punishment.

That's obviously the nazi in me coming out.

The scene isn't intended to trivialise rape. I think it's particularly horrific because of the attitude the Alex has to it. The audience is expected to understand that it's a horrific act all by itself...

Like I said, it's peoples reactions to it.

That's why it should have a 'No numpties allowed to watch' sticker on it.

Re: Two threads down. Freedom Hater

but that has nothing to do with the film, as long as you get that.. so some people bother you with their outlook on a film, big deal, is that new?

if you want to blame someone/something, blame how the media casually strings rape storys beside the weather or football results etc. trivializing it for the viewers/readers everyday day of the week, its pretty obvious, everyones aware of it, but they take it out on other things instead.

personally i don't care

Re: Two threads down. Freedom Hater

Isn't this a movie discussion forum?

Refer to my original post about freedom of expression.

I am allowed to criticize a film. Just as you are allowed to criticize a film. In fact, most films, you do just that!

Probably what irritates more than this stupid arse film is the ignorant dip****s who condemn the opinions of others.

Debate is fine. Just stop trying to tell other people that their opinion is wrong.

I do not like this film. I do not think people should expose themselves to things that have no upbuilding content, if they choose not to. I do not like people who get all self-righteous and superior by saying 'oh you so stupid you can't appreciate this masterpiece you nazi'.

I like Alien: Resurrection. I think everybody should like Alien: Resurrection, but that is not going to happen as I get laughed off the board every time it gets brought up.

What makes A Clockwork Orange so different? Because it's 'OMG so speshul cuz its contravershal!!11' ?

That's hypocritical.

I go back to my long ago statement of ACO not being as clever as it think it is. Except now I direct that at its fans.

yeah, but thing is (and what i was pointing out), you're not actually criticising the film (at best you've said its "stupid"), you've got something against the people who watch and react to it.

ok?

I thought you didn't care?

And yes, I do have a problem with such people. I have a burning desire to make them see the error of their ways.

I'm a hippy, don't forget. Peace and love and all that. ACO doesn't fit into that, somehow.
