Thumbs up Tron Is An Allegory

Anyone familiar with the Bible? You cannot appreciate much literature and arts without knowing the Bible. Tron is clearly an allegory on the Christian gospel. The Users = God; note the expression, "My user." There are bad programs, who are dupes of MasterContro = atheists dupes of satan. "Sark" is the Greek root for flesh, one of the enemies of the Christian. p. 13: "The concept of the Users struck him as so basic, so instrinsic . . . ." = the existence of God is axiomatic. A program is made in the image of the user.

- p. 50: "Our spirit remains in every program" = God breathed into Adam the breath of life"

- Flynn becomes a program in the Computer World and saves the computer world from the MCP = Christ becomes a man and saves the world from satan

- pp. 92-93: There is a waterfall and stream = the Holy Spirit Who gives power;

- the disk = the Bible, the word of God, instrument of warfare (Sword of the Spirit) and instrument of receiving the Holy Spirit's power; they drink using the disk.

- The Communication Bean = prayer

- Flynn brings Yori back to life = Christ raising the dead

- p. 165, Sark is apparently by the MCP brought back to life with a horrible wound = the Beast in Revelation with an apparent resurrection

- p. 168 The MCP is possibly a former "Guardian" = Cherub? (satan the "anointed cherub that covered; Ezek 28; Isaiah 14)

- p. 167 "a feeling like that is the laser lab . . . digitized" = Flynn's sacrifice of self to save the computer world = the cross of Christ;

- Flynn leaves the computer to go back to the outside world = the ascension. And there is a new creation.

The movie is a very clever allegory -- of course it does not match perfectly the gospel. Those who do not know the Bible are doomed to poverty in understanding the arts.

Other excellent features:

1. The old sci-fi plot would have an evil computer trying to take over the world. In Tron, the computer is neutral, having evil and good programs in it -- so far as I know, an orginal approach.

2. There is a nice little allusion to the movie, The Day the Earth Stood Still," p. 27: "GORT, KLAATU BARADA NIKTO!"

This is a most excellent movie.

Or those who don't know the BIBLE inside out could just get on with enjoying a film for what it's worth without the prevailing and intruding thoughts of comparison.
