Re: The Abyss - moralising gone good?

Usually, with films of the nature of The Abyss, I find myself disgusted by what we brits see as the typically American sickbag moralistic endings with everyone patting themselves on the back or putting accross a moralistic eco message designed to "make everyone think".
However, having recently seen the extended version of the film with the extra 20 mins (potentially the above) I was pleasantly surprised by how inoffensive it was and most of all, how it tied the end back into the film itself which, whilst very good, did not appear to flow properly.
I have loved this film since the original release and now prefer the full version.
Too eco-pushing and moralising or surprisingly acceptable footage? I know it is the latter for me.
Replies please

Talking Oh yeah?

That’s funny, because I always found British movies annoying because they always seem to kill off the best characters before the end of the film.

So there!

Yes, it is typical american, but I think itīs not bad.
Nobody who sees the film the first time would expect it, it is a happy end, itīs clever and it is (for this film) logical and realistic.
