Pilot's Mess [chit-chat zone]
This is the forum to get to know your fellow pilots and the ONLY place to talk about everything else not really relevant to sci-fi movies, including your personal loves and interests. A true pilot doesn't discuss these issues while on duty.

????? Amazing! It got your vote of confidence?
I really liked that movie (despite the gainsayers here!) and I thought I read somewhere that you didnt think it was up to snuff. But as I was reading that grossly distorted forum in Offworld ( ) that spiraled into culture-bashing, I notice that you say you . . .*gasp* . .. . .liked it.Yes: it isnt true to the storyline. Yes: it is fast paced hollywood action. Yes: the zombies arent quite what they should be. But I will say this---that movie made me play the game. When the flick came out, I knew that there was a game, I had simply NEVER seen fit to want to play it before. So, after watching Milla Jovovich stomp the zombies in the movie, I was like---this game sounds interesting. . . . I go buy Code Veronica X (ok---so i dove in much later, I know), and lo, and behold, NONE of the characters from the movie are in the game! Im thinking to myself, WHO is Clare Redfield, and WHO cares??? But as I have found in chats with the dude in GameCrazy, and here on the forum boards, the games are the real deal (of course), and the movie changed the game. Fine---I still like the game I have, now that Ive adjusted my thinking. The movie, while different, was still enjoyable. I understand that this is probably because I wasnt exposed to the storyline before I watched the film. But coming in at it backwards the way I have, I dont mindthe movie--- --fact is, I liked it well enough to add it to my collection! ![]() |

Re: Iwata Likes the Resident Evil Movie??
You've made a couple of threads like this before, I think...one was about you being amazed when you found out that SF was funny...even though he was always funny...
Is your next one going to be about me not liking all pornography? |

I hated Tomb Raider, btw----BOTH of them!
Somehow, Im sure that the game is more focused on her conquests beyond the romantic. . |

This first couple Tombrairders are ok, but after that...
As for Resident Evil. There were so many pissibilities that could have done with that moive. Sad to say they chose a bad one, but atleast it's not the worst. ![]() |

Re: Iwata Likes the Resident Evil Movie??
im a really big fan of the games (i played resi 2 non stop till i completed it) so yea i was a bit dissapointed with the film but looking at the trailer for 2 it looks like it might actually be worth the price of the ticket.

Re: Iwata Likes the Resident Evil Movie??
I liked the film. It wasn't pretentious like the Dawn remake, it was a straight-out shooter film from the beggining, with zombies as targets as special-ops troops as the flag-bearers.
Plus, cool stuff like the laser-corridor and the Red Queen are bonuses. I also very much liked the Manson-written soundtrack. Very appropriate. So yeah, in all, I dug it. Besides, it's Paul Anderson. The guy gave us Event Horizon and is soon giving us Alien Vs Predator. |

somebody sounds piss drunk! ![]() I really enjoyed the Red Queen---the idea that a computer/AI has the power to give and take life based on a computer algorithm is scary. The computer was very logical, hard core, cynical, but did what was necessary to clean up the problem. Red Queen was perfect----a machine that lacks the emotive failings we have as humans---(interesting, should we give all of our hard choices to a "program"???). Still, she needed to be fried. As far as Tomb Raider, the game spirals down into stupidity, you say? Did the idiot version games (read---movie based) come out after the movie and could that be a reason why they are bad? Second question: I have NEVER see any "Dead" movie on the shelf other than House of the Dead, which you guys say is "based off of" Romero's work. Do we have those movies in the States???? Cuz I have yet to see an orginal Romero. . . Quote:
Only if you request it by a formal memorandum to the department chief, who will then disseminate to the appropriate file, which will be handled by me, in the order recieved. Since I dont really care who you jerk off to or how often, I wont spend any cognitive time on the subject unless given a formal request. And even then, Id need material to work with. In your case, it might take months, years, even. Sciflicks might even be gone by that time. So, the department cant make any promises, but by all means, submit a request. |

While I do agree with Iwata about the laser-corridor and Red Queen (albeit both were rip-offs from parts in other films), I also have to agree with Autechre above. |

as long as you dont expect the greatness of the very firtst resident evil game you shouldnt be disapointed. It was a decent movie and I did watch it more than once, just dont play the game before you watch the movie. they should have stuck with Romero's script!

Re: Iwata Likes the Resident Evil Movie??
See. Now I want to go buy the first RE game and start from the beginning.
I suppose the movie accomplished its purpose in me: get my money and interest in the subject, then hook me into the games. . . |

Re: Iwata Likes the Resident Evil Movie??
I gotta totally disagree with you on the red queen thing mack, I think the Red queen showed a lot of empathy by doing what she did (i.e. locking down the base and preventing the spread of the t-virus), the people that were in the base were dead anyway (they had all been infected) what the queen did was for the greater good - that is to stop the widespread out break of a zombie plague.
Admittedly one could argue that the queens prime concern was to prevent umbrella's nefarious dealings, but I like to think she had the general publics health as her prime concern. As for the film, I loved it, its one of those rare films where you think its gonna be crap and are then very pleasantly surprised by how good it is. Did anyone else spot the weak spot in the corridor laser thingy? The lasers only start after the far door way, so if you hid there you wouldn't be lasered, I think you would have been safe if you hid in the near door way too, it looked like the lasers only worked where there was mirrors. |
