Re: It's Official! James Bond 007 in: Casino Royale
Well, the new Bond is most likely true, but would anyone actually want to see Casino Royale, and not something different?

Re: It's Official! James Bond 007 in: Casino Royale
Not really. It sounds far to emotive to be the Bond we know and love. Granted, we all have our beginnings and the pasts that made us who we are, but I for one dont really think that a "humanization" of 007 is going to go over well.
Ask me if I want to see some bleeding heart chick flick film that explains all of 007's emotional idiosyncracies. <--I dont.Besides, I do believe if I remember correctly, that they already made a film where he fell in love and became affianced with a girl that was killed---thus explaining his "love em and leave em" attitude, so this whole go-back-in-the-past and dredge up the ruination of his young adulthood just sounds exploitative. FURTHERMORE. Why cant they be creative enough to unfold his pathology in a proper time sequence? It has been done before, and any writer with a brain should be able to capably unwrap the past demons in a present movie. |

That's the problem, finding a writer that will tackle the beast that is Bond, and try and flesh out all those past demons.

Re: It's Official! James Bond 007 in: Casino Royale
Was very dissapointed to read that they are going for an updated version of Casino Royale. I think it would have been a great twist in the series to set the movie in the same time context as the novel, the early 1950's. I love the look of the older bond films, the flashy hotels, the futurama looking architecture, suits, ties, guns and hats. Bond, as much as I love the movies, doesn't really work in the modern world. Face it, in 2005 he's an alcholoic, masochistic, womanizer who uses sex as a tool of his trade. Face it, despite a few surprises, Bond hasn't aged well in the last 20 years.

I'm disappointed by the way they handled the Pierce Brosnan situation, semmed pretty classless to me. It looks like the 'James Bond' franchise is heading down the same road as 'Star Trek.' It seems burnt out in my opinion.
I'm not really thrilled with any of the prospects and I think Pierce was wasted on bad scripts. |

the "pierce brosnan" situation? I knew of the things that went on back in the 80s, but I only vaguely recall recent "issues." Someone PLEASE fill me in here! |

Well, more or less, the producers told Brosnan to take a hike and they don't want him as their James Bond anymore. Brosnan said they just called him once and said, "we don't need you anymore." Here is an article from the Hollywood Reporter --------------------------------------------- Quote:

Bond is overrated. IMO.
Now, if a Bond film is on TV, I will watch it. It doesn't matter if it's a good one or not, I will watch it. I always see...
