Original Movie Poster
Surprised that I actually found a movie poster for this, considering it was made for TV. Two years in the making? Yet it's always considered the poor man's Star Wars. So did Glen Larson know in 1976 that Lucas was about to come out with SW?

Re: Original Movie Poster
sensurround was a short lived movie gimmick wherein the theater was rigged to vibrate whenever a catalclysmic or violent scene was unfolding on the screen. I remember going to a few sensurround movies when I was a kid and it was nothing special really. It was like they just turned up the volume on the speakers.

Re: Original Movie Poster
I remember sensurround, kind of percursor to surround sound, THX, and all that. Those can scenes where the vipers shoot out of the tubes was awesome.
Odd thing about this, well, not that odd, but the television show was on TV before this movie came out and, I think, all or at least parts of it appeared on TV before it ever hit theaters. But this was the poster for the theatrical release. How much BG pre-dated Star Wars is the stuff of debate but I tend to think that the show Larson pitched to NBC in 1976 was far different from the show that went into production the summer of 1977. I suspect Star Wars had a profound effect on changing this series. The statement "Two years in the making" is a bit of a stretch but elements of the series existed as early as 1976. Originally, I suspect previous TV incarnations like Lost in Space or Space 1999 had more influence. |
