Coming Soon - The Chronicles of Sarah Connor!

Fox OKs Terminator Pilot

Fox has committed to a pilot for a Terminator-themed TV show tentatitvely titled The Sarah Connor Chronicles, Variety reported. Andy Vajna and Mario Kassar's C2 Pictures, which produced Terminator 3: Rise of the Machines, has struck a deal wiith Warner Brothers Television and writer Josh Friedman (War of the Worlds) for the series, which will focus on Sarah Connor and her savior son, John Connor, the trade paper reported.

Fox declined to comment to the trade paper about the project, which attracted serious interest from several networks.

Friedman is aboard to write the pilot and serve as executive producer-show runner of the series, which would take place in the fictional time frame between the second and third Terminator movies. Vajna and Kassar will serve as executive producers, with C2 senior vice president of development James Middleton also producing.

Meanwhile, Vajna confirmed to Variety that C2 is in "the final phases of development" of a fourth Terminator movie, and the series will have a link to what's being envisioned as a new feature trilogy.

Linda Hamilton, who played Sarah Connor in the first two Terminator movies, is not expected to be involved in the show. And because the series will be focused on the Connor family, it's not anticipated that Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger, who played the title character in the films, would be a regular part of the series either.

Middleton said the series will explore what happened to Sarah Connor after the end of T2, when the character went on the run.

Re: Coming Soon - The Chronicles of Sarah Connor!

Dammit Sith you beat me to it!!! Grrr

Anyway, my thoughts.

I've been mentioning the subject of how the Terminator series could be transferred to TV not infrequently on these forums, with my ideas of a series focussing on a Tech-Com unit in the future war, or an adaptation of some of the old comics (Secondary Objectives would be ideal - I even had a go at writing it at one point).

Now a series set after T2 focussing on the relationship between Sarah and John? Hmmmm. Well what do we know? T2 is set in 1995. According to John in T3, Sarah lived to see "Judgment Day" (August 29th 1997). Now Sarah dies in 1997 if I remember correctly from her coffin in T3. John mentions that she faught for three years after she was diagnosed with her eventually fatal leukemia. For the dates to add up, Sarah must be diagnosed sometime in early 1995 (assuming she dies late-'97, otherwise the dates don't work at all) which cannot leave a lot of time between the end of T2 and her diagnosis. If Freidman is as astute as I am in working out these dates, he will have to incorperate this fact early on in this post-T2 series (or risk the wrath of fans like me).

Now here is where my optimism kicks in. A series about a mother suffering from leukemia trying to raise a 10-year-old boy might actually make a decent series on its own. Throw in the Terminator aspect - fact that this is Sarah and John Connor - the Sarah Connor and the John Connor we're talking about - you know this thing might work?

What do I hope to see personally as a huge fan of the series? My initial reaction was to see their continuing efforts against Cyberdyne. Then, of course, one remembers that John and Sarah believed they prevented Judgment Day after the events of T2. So no Cyberdyne. No returning Terminators either, otherwise John would've mentioned them in T3.

What else is there? One aspect of S.M. Stirling's brilliant Terminator Infiltrator novels was the idea of a Luddite movement - people who protest against mankind's advancement of technology (to the point where they end up unwittingly aiding Skynet in their misguided belief that their 'culling' will enable mankind to start afresh). Perhaps the Connors could cross paths with these people somehow, and again get mixed up with Cyberdyne-esque companies (although even I admit that last idea sounds a bit far-fetched considering the aforementioned belief that the Connors stopped Judgment Day with the events of T2). We know the Connors head to Baha as it is where Sarah is diagnosed, and that these years mean so much to John as they are important enough to be included in the message he sends back with Kyle, indicating that there is going to be some emotional coming-of-age moments.

Other than that (and whatever else I happen to remember as soon as I press 'Submit'), we will will just have to wait and see with hearts full of hope and fingers crossed (and poised over these keys should they stray from my facts).

I'll be back

Ok So John is apparantly going to be 14, which as unlikely as it sounds, does fit into my Terminator timeline that I created (which I'm immensely proud of but unfortunately it is too big to fit onto a post )

I am already disapointed.

I haven't been following the subject, so I ask you this. Does anyone know what the 4th Terminator movie will be about?

Nutter To Helm Connor Pilot

Warner Brothers TV has set David Nutter to direct the pilot for The Sarah Connor Chronicles, prompting Fox Broadcasting to give an official green light to production on the Terminator-themed project, Variety reported.

Nutter (The X-Files), whose last 12 pilots have been picked up to series, also will serve as executive producer. Andy Vajna and Mario Kassar's C2 Pictures, which produced Terminator: Rise of the Machines, is producing with Warner Brothers TV.

Fox made a put pilot commitment to Connor last fall, picking up the script from executive producer Josh Friedman (War of the Worlds). Kassar and Vajna will also executive-produce.

Casting on Connor will begin immediately, with shooting expected to commence early next year in New Mexico.

Nutter also directed the pilots of Smallville and Supernatural, as well as Terminator helmer James Cameron's Fox series Dark Angel.

Well Nutter seems to have an impressive backlog with TV, and Kassar and Vajna are keeping an eye on things so fingers crossed.

When you think of Sarah Connor, chances are you picture Linda Hamilton either running for her shaggy-haired life, or – in T2 – all muscles ‘n’ guns.

Well, if Fox TV and The Sarah Connor Chronicles have their way, that image may be replaced with Lena Headey carrying the mantle and the machine guns.

The British actress and Brothers Grimm co-star, next to appear in 300, has just been cast as Connor in the Terminator TV spin-off, which will see Sarah and whiny future hero sprog John facing off against futuristic nasties sent to do them in around present-day Los Angeles.

War Of The Worlds co-writer Josh Friedman’s handling the writing, and Smallville director David Nutter will start calling the shots on the pilot early next year.

Having seen her pic on empireonline, she looks unnervingly like Linda Hamilton. They could be onto something here...

Re: Coming Soon - The Chronicles of Sarah Connor!

This is a horrible idea. The fact that T3 is so shot full of holes, and a virtual clone of T2 should be a clue of how this will turn out. Unless it follows the Stirling version of the future, it will suck. Not to mention, the chonicles of Sarah Connor could only last those three years. Grrr. No thanks. Let the dead horse lie.

I quite like Lena whatshername, and I think it's not the worst idea in the world. I might catch an episode if it's ever aired in the UK, but I doubt I'll be buying a DVD of it ever.

I read they will be taking a few liberties with what's gone before. Which I'm taking/hoping to mean T3.
