Re: 2008 Presidential Elections: Who's Your Fave?
In the Democrat case it is representative, in the Republican case it is probably not. I look forward to seeing Johnny McCain gather steam in the weeks ahead and watching Mr. Romney gradually begin to pack his hair moos and head home.

Re: 2008 Presidential Elections: Who's Your Fave?
![]() Obama. The man is a natural. Though it probably helps greatly that my lil brother looks like an exact replica of him. I like his thinking. I like his policies - domestic and foreign (I like 70% of Hillary's too). I like that he has an action plan and not just a "feeling" or an opinion. I like that he is black. No minority in any sense of the word has risen to the kind of power he has without serious opposition, justified or not, and I like that he is man among men, who in order to even stand there has overcome greater odds than his peers (so has Hillary) - the difference is that he's not obviously bitter and angry. I like that he gets a little dirty (who in Chicago politics HASNT gotten dirty?): although we love to point and talk as though "dirt" is unmentionable and undesirable, I like knowing that he's no novice to scrapping in the backlot - we're going to need a nice guy who is smart enough to know that dirty fights happen, and to show up on fight day prepared to get his knuckles bloody (I like this about Hillary too). I like that he's new. I like his idealism. I like that he's young, and I like that knowing that if America puts in a black president, half the battle of winning back global sentiment that we are not racist imperialists is already won. and I too feel that our country needs something new right now. We've seen the best the normal has to offer, and we are looking at the bottom. Im not even mad at George Bush anymore - nor at Republicans. Im not mad at weak Democrats anymore. Im just tired. Im weary of it all. And I feel as though I am not alone - the political process, the machinations of the current adminstrations, the global upheavals currently underway, the economic and housing crisis we are currently facing - these things have beaten the american consciousness into a kind of shell-shocked stupor. And we need someone to knock us up out of the rut we are in. more of the same isnt going to do it. I really like Hillary, although I am opposed to certain items on her agenda. Obama, on the other hand - his agenda has my carte blanche. I prefer Obama, but Im ready for either to win. [/my 2 cents] Last edited by mack : Jan 6, 2008 at 04:12 AM. |

Re: 2008 Presidential Elections: Who's Your Fave?
So just watched half of the debates, the dems are about to come on stage. Watching the debates just reminds me of how much I've stopped caring about this so far, I was hoping that the caucuses would revitalize my interest but its still the same old **** we've all heard the past 6+ months.
I'll finish watching these and then turn my brain off until someone says something new. |

Re: 2008 Presidential Elections: Who's Your Fave?
What is wrong with people? Someone who shall remain nameless (okay, my dad) told me, after a bit of after dinner politics discussion (As usual, unfortunately for my parents) that he may consider voting democratic. He does, however, refuse to vote for Obama, considering he's a Muslim. When I told him that Obama is a practicing Christian and has been all his life, etc, (ignored the "Why does that matter?") he replied, "I don't care. He's a muslim and I'm not voting for him.
I.. I just... I can't comprehend.. No offense to my dad, he's a super great guy, but that's so, so.. It flies in the face of logic! I used to think I loved the Steve Doocys (Doocies?) of the world because they're funny, but maybe J.S. was right when he told Tucker Carlson and Guy Who Was Not Weareing A Bowtie on Crossfire that they're "hurting America." And, I.. Well, I don't know. I think I'll take this moment to stumble out of the room and allow my incoherency to... go.. and do something... (By the caucus being unrepresentative, I meant that they don't take into account independent voters because only card-carrying member can vote in them AND not even all members of the parties that will vote in the elections even bother with caucuses/primaries) |

Am I the only one who's realised that this poll (uh, in this thread) is obviously a fraud? If you've ever been on the internet (youtube), you've probably noticed that 90% of the world's population is voting for "ron paul 2008".

Funny, I don’t recall writing that first response. It was New Years Eve after all. Did I drink that night? I can’t remember. How disconcerting. Well, firstly I was, in my one whole sentence (about a dozen odd words I guess) referring to Iraq as an election issue only. I thought I made that clear (both in this post and a previous post) but I suppose I did not pre or post text it enough, like it would even matter anyway. I’ve heard your propaganda filled rants before and can pretty much skim and ignore so you’re wasting your time here. You can preach to the rest of the choir members that haunt this site and stew in your anti-American venom to your heart’s content. But as long as you choose to ignore one full half of the facts at the expense of the actual truth you will have no converts. Let me be the first to turn my deaf ear my friend. Add to this the fact that you idealize one of the most fascist and oppressive, mass murdering movements in the history of civilization and you have a serious credibility problem as well. That said, as an election issue, I feel I was dead on. The media makes us perceive failure – all the politicians want to talk about it. They make us perceive any level of success and it’s ignored. This must be particularly difficult for the democratic candidates since they have a considerable anti-war crowd to appease yet hardly want to be seen as cowering away from a fight we are winning. In my mind it simply illustrates how perception is in the eye of the media. Of course, now it’s all about race and gender. Could it be that the party of open mindedness and multiculturalism can’t get over the fact that one contender is a black man and the other a woman? What happened to judging a person by the content of their character and not the color of their skin? I actually find a lot about Barack Obama to like. He’s generally positive while remaining a realist at the same time. I don’t know that I would vote for him or not but he’s at least got me interested in hearing what he has to say. |

We ARE nice to each other. People shouldn't be judged by how they react to each other's political opinions, they have a habit of getting heated. I still love that schnukums big ball of yank passion and wish him all the best. Even if he is a war-oriented, single-minded, right-even-when-proven-wrong, obstinate, conservative fool. ![]() |

"Got Jesus" is boring. You should get the tshirt with "I Found Jesus. He was behind the couch the entire time" xD With a picture of Jesus holding out his arms standing up behind a couch.
