Question Ok I don't get it...

What is the fascination with this movie?

I've watched it, even have it, but I still don't get it. Maybe it's because I'm a visual person and the animation isn't...great, but then neither are the story/charaters that strong. Then the dubbing I have is pretty poor.

Re: Ok I don't get it...

It's got cool biking scenes in the beginning...
And then this cool part where this guy hallucinates and sees his stomach rip open and his guts fall out. That's cool too.
And then the last 1/3 of the movie is almost constant coolness. Well, the blobby thing is a bit strange, but most of it is cool.

Translation: I'm not sure what the fascination with it is. It might be magic. Concentrated coolness. Bike fights. Psychic abilities manifesting htmeselves in the form of teddy bears. Neo-tokyo with big buildings. Something.
It's better when it's not dubbed.

Personally I watch it to see the protesters getting beaten the crap out of them by the Police in the beggining.

I love the grenade launcher scene!

i prefer the japanese version with subtitles thedialogue is different.

Fave scene the fire in the tunnel and Kanada riding through the foam.

I always (well, since recently atleast) find a film is better when watching it in the original language with subtitles than when it's dubbed. Dubbed feels unnatural, and badly dubbed is just plain silly.

There is something brilliant about this film, though. It's a cartoon, but it doesn't feel like a cartoon. It's a bit silly, but it feels utterly serious.

It's just plain good

I think it is good because it deals with progression of the human mind and body.

The limitations of biological. That is what I remember, but it was 2-3 years since I've seen it.

One of my favorite scenes of this movie is in the beginning, when the guy was trying to run away with the little old guy/kid, and the police tear his body to shreds with automatic rifle fire, very graphic in its realism.

It sets a very definite tone fro mthe start. A tone that reminds you that not everything animated is for kids. That's one thing I like about this - it's an animated film, but at times it doesn't feel like one, it feels like a film film, you know?

I really enjoy the feel of it... until the last third, when it goes a bit mental.

Have you ever seen a half ton bovine give birth? Because there's goo all over the damn shop, and that's no fun for anybody.

Anyway. Akira. Needed more biking.

Ok, you win, gooey isn't fun (unless you say it out loud ).

But yes, more biking would have been nice, nothing like well animated speediness
