Minority Report???

A Steven Speilberg directed science fiction film with a big budget, great writers and based on a Phillip K. D*ck novel (penman of Blade Runner) - forget the fact that Tom Cruise occupies the lead role and I would think this would generate some serious buzz in the realm of science fiction fans - huh? Has anyone heard anything about this film?

I think it looks okay, I dont think I would watch it in a theatre though.

I heard that it has something to do with cops being able to travel through time to be able to go back in time to stop crimes from taking place.
But, if they went back to stop a murder, stop it, then they wouldn't have gone back in time to stop it.
That is the problem with time-travel movies. actually, it is not the problem with The Time Machine(2001). See it and you will understand.

The basic premise is that there's an agency in the future that stops crimes before they happen, i.e by arresting the person who is going to commit it. Sounds kinda like the Voyager plot where Captain Jackoff of whatever his name was was arrested for crimes he "is going to commit".

Yes, Tom Cruise, uber-cop-o-the-future, is, through some kind of device, able to see the future and see crimes before they happen, so they go and arrest people for crimes thay are going to commit but then, in a typical twist of sci-fi fate, Tom himself (or his character) is seen commiting a crime in the future and becomes a fugitive...

They are really keeping quiet about this movie, which is kind of odd considering those involved. I think Spielberg thinks the media blowout that surrounded A.I. contributed to that films untimely demise at the box office. By the time the movie opened, critics, many of whom had not even seen the film, had whipped the public into a frenzy and had expectations running ridiculously high. So, for good reason, the buzz on this films has been strangely light.

One of my dictums is this:

A movie that is under-hyped tends to do better sometimes. Only when the movie is a long-awaited move, i.e. Star Wars, then will they over-hype.

Actually, A.I. was over-hyped and not long-awaited, but did poorly. My dictum has failed. Noooooo!

I just watched the new trailer, definately NOT timecop. Very impressive. There is a link at DarkHorizons, you should check it out. I have passes (I think) to see a sneak preview this film in May in Atlanta. Can't wait.

Nice. I hope you'll keep us posted with your first impresions of the movie. I read about it also on the internet and I must agree that it sounds interesting.

You guys realize this basic storyline has already been done... I can't remember the names but I remember cops going back in time to stop crimes. So is the Minority Report in the same vein?

Personally, I think this one would look good. After seeing the trailers it's a mix of Logan's Run and the movie I mentioned before. Hopefully Spielberg can turn this out into a good flick. I'm not expecting wonders from it, just good action and plot... hopefully.
