I am VERY disappointed ...
I've been waiting for about 2 years to see this movie. I've been waiting since it was called Arac Attack. I thought, "Giant Spiders attack town - how can this movie go wrong?" I quite liked Independance Day the first time I saw it, so it didn't really faze me when I found out Dean Devlin and Roland Emmerich were making it. I didn't even worry TOO much when David friggin' Arquette was cast.
And yesterday I saw it. Maybe it was because I was supposed to be seeing it with a bunch of friends, and they all cancelled, and I went anyway out of stubborn dogged determination to see this damn movie. Maybe it was because the popcorn stuck in that unreachable place between my tongue and my teeth and sat there tickling all night. Maybe it was just because the movie was crap. But I barely enjoyed it at all. The effects ranged from "quite good really" to "VERY obvious Blue-screen". The dialogue was majorly cheesy, and the plot had more cliches than your average soap opera. I thought the movie, supposedly being a spoof, would poke fun at the cliches. It only fell prey to them. The spiders themselves ... made woo-woo noises. Woo-woo noises? I ask you. The people making the movie couldn't tell whether they were making Aliens or Gremlins. The music was way way way too light when it should have been dramatic and scary. The acting wasn't bad. I particularly liked Doug E. Doug, but i'm a hige fan of Cool Runnings anyway In short - if you want very very very light entertainment, watch this movie. If you're drunk. ***PS : I'd be very interested to see what BalrogTim has to say about this, cos we were both awaiting the movie with about thye same enthusiasm. |

Re: I am VERY disappointed ...
I went to this film expecting it to be a cheap, stoopid, big spiders eating people with David Arquette, being, well, David Arquette. But hey, sorry to go against the grain but I enjoyed it. I took for exactly what it was, I knew it wasn't going to be any good, and once I'd accepted that, it was fine. Oh yeah, and the fact I was stoned at the time kinda' helped too. I had a great time watching this film. The spiders looked ok when interacting with the scenery, but you're right, when they actually started laying into the people, say it with me, BLUE SCREEN!!!!
And what was with that malcolm in the middle type boy genius? But hey, it had Doug E Doug in it and that in itself is cool! |

Woo woo noises, hey it is a comedy as well!
I thought very similar to Tremors but Tremors wins in my book. Still, i enjoyed Eight Legged Freaks. Just mindless fun. |

Hmmm ... Tremors ... that was about the worms that burst out of the ground and ate people, yes? I think that'd win, too.

Re: I am VERY disappointed ...
It was all in good fun, a satyr of the fifties Sci-Fi horror movies. Don't be so serious, you'll die young of a heart attack brought on by being to stiff about a movie, it did what it was supposed to do.

I didn't care for the film. (But then, I'm not the one who did the choosing when we went to the movies that day.) I didn't expect much out of it, and that's just about what I got. Not much at all...

Re: I am VERY disappointed ...
I wasn't expecting much but I got several good laughfs out of it. How many people were in that town anyway. I mean when the spiders first invade they kill like a good 95% of the towns people. Theen when everyone is in the mall most of them get slaughterd. Then when they all come running out of the caves there are a bunch of people still. How!? I thought it was funny ,stupid but funny.

Him doesn't know me too well, does him? Hey, I just like my Giant Spider movies to be decent, alright?! And David Arquette neither scares me nor worries me. I hardly notice he's there. Screen presence? What screen presence? |
