Pilot's Mess [chit-chat zone]

This is the forum to get to know your fellow pilots and the ONLY place to talk about everything else not really relevant to sci-fi movies, including your personal loves and interests. A true pilot doesn't discuss these issues while on duty.

One of my Many Essay's to come!

Hey kids! Wanna read a smart, sassy, painfully truthful essay written by yours truley? Weeeeeeeeeeell saddle up partner.

this one revolves around the deteriation of the kid's TV station, Nickelodeon
Nickelodeon: What Has It Come To?

Remember the good old days…no? Well, maybe I should refresh your memory. The good old days were where you could have invited your best friend over, any time, any day. These were the days were when the short lived ‘Smores Bars were on the top of everyone’s grocery-list every Monday. The good old days were when Nickelodeon aired shows like, Double Dare, Pete & Pete, and Rocko’s Modern Life. Yes, these shows possessed it all, from whimsical family traumas, to hilarious wallabies going to unstable theme parks. Yes, us kids had it made, getting home from arts ‘n crafts camp to sit down and watch a solid episode of Rocko.

However, times have changed, and ever since the start of the new Rugrats cartoons (you know, the ones with the brighter colors), Rocko was scratched, Pete and Pete was canned, and Double Dare was placed into a long, lengthy nap (Only to be woken up later, and in an unhealthy mood it woke). They were replaced by shorter, stupider cartoons, so that kids would love them for a brief period of time and then forget them, causing them to be replaced by shorter, stupider cartoons…
Snick got a revamp, as did U-Pick. Yes, gone are the days of funny little sticks showing us funny little cartoons. Who needs ‘em? What kids today need is a thick guy named Dave rant on about hitting people with pies, while simultaneously lecturing them about how bullying is wrong!

Months went on, years passed. The Wild Thornberrys, Cat-Dog, and Double Dare 2000 were syndicated. Now, let me go into this, “Double Dare 2000” concept. When hearing Double Dare 2000, and having knowledge that there was once a show dubbed Double Dare, one would assume that Double Dare 2000 newer, fresher game show. And would be true! That is, if you find people trying to throw other members of there families into giant pieces of toast amusing.

More years pass. A new show, called…oh, what was it again…oh, yes that’s right, SpongeBob Squarepants! The show featured a yellow phylum, with a voice more aggravating than Jim Carey’s face; go on hollow, meaningless adventures, facing crude, rudimentary humor along the way.

And kids loved it.

They loved it because these days, most kids don’t like to think. They don’t like to think and they don’t like to admit it. SpongeBob is just so crass and basic, that kids can’t help but to tune in to it every day (much like Adam Sandler). So much so that Nick starts to play with their minds, constantly changing the show’s time-slot, so that kids will only anticipate it more and more. Yes, senseless, inane humor is the ticket on SpongeBob.

And with that, I believe I can finally understand the current condition of Nickelodeon and its programs. It’s amazing how far we’ve come in such a small time.

So? Feedback? Love it? Hate it?
