Re: Spaceballs, the movie!

Daphne Zuniga was Princess Vespa in Spaceballs thats what. The only other movie that i've seen her in (or at least recognized her) was The Fly 2. She was pretty good in it too, she helped give the film some much-needed humanity.

Smile My View On The Film

On the whole I thought that the film 'Spaceballs' is very well made up, many taking the mickey of 'Star Wars', but also including many other films for example 'Star Trek' & the "alien' films but too name two.
I found myself laughing on many different occassions & even though I have no plans to own this film myself, I would watch it again!

Re: Spaceballs, the movie!

Frankly I can't understand why Spaceballs, a terrible, years-overdue Mel Brooks stale fart of a movie, has managed to get a listing on this forum yet other movies, great movies (Altered States, THX 1138, Forbidden Planet, any Cronenberg, whatever) haven't.

Christ, if we've got a listing for this lame effort, then why not Stella Starcrash, or The Humanoid, with Richard Kiell? Or any other, straight-to-video piece of s***?

Because it's an extremely funny, well made sci-fi spoof film & the fact that it's got a listing on this forum just goes to show how many fans it has got all over the world!

Re: Spaceballs, the movie!

Okay, okay... I get the point. Now a really funny SF spoof to watch for is the Forbidden Planet parody that's the centrepiece of Amazon Women on the Moon, an all-too ignored slice of genius exec. produced by John Landis a billion years ago. Rent and weep!

Exclamation Space Balls is far better than Star Wars

Stale fart of a Mel Brooks movie?! You must think Hamlet is a stale fart of a Shakespeare tragedy! Space Balls is a truly great sci-fi spoof. Though of course it dosnt go as deep as say... Hitchhicker's Guide to the galaxy, as far as it's genure goes it is unmatched. The film it mainly spoofed, star wars, isnt worth anything without its (now sadly dated) special effects and mindless cult following. So if any film dosnt deserve to be here on artistic merits, its Star Wars!

Re: Spaceballs, the movie!

Oh, come on. The only thing funny (tragically funny, that is) about Spaceballs is that it took Mr. Brooks ten years (TEN YEARS!!!) to come up with about two gags... it's cobblers and you know it... don't get me started now!

Re: Spaceballs, the movie!

Ten years, eh? that explains why it was so damn FUNNY! Brilliant! One of Brooks' best films! Two jokes? Right... Get real. Is it Mel's fault that you lack a sence of humor?

may the schwartz be with you!

Pants? I'm not wearing any... What about "History of the World part one"?! that 'jews in space' routine alone was worth the price of a movie ticket!

so it seems that you apreciate Mel's more subtle work like 'the producers' and 'young frankinstine'. But what about his all-out burlesque? Thats where he shines! 'Spaceballs' and 'Blazing Saddles' are prime examples!

Thumbs down Re: Spaceballs, the movie!

No: good parody relies on affection for the subject matter, and Brooks obviously had much affection for the whole ludicrous western genre to piece together something as seminal as Blazing Saddles. In contrast, Spaceballs shows no affection at all, just the dull possibility of making a buck or two (ditto Robin Hood - Men In Tights).

'Spaceballs' is indeed a good film & any one who doesn't agree in my opinion should seriously have their head examined as it's very, very funny in too many places within the film to mention & the fact that it took so long to make, only made sure that it was going to be so good & funny & it has done just that!
