This is the forum to get to know your fellow pilots and the ONLY place to talk about everything else not really relevant to sci-fi movies, including your personal loves and interests. A true pilot doesn't discuss these issues while on duty.

Quick question...........
Ok, so I lied, it's not really a quick question cos its such a big debate. I haven't been on line in a while so I apologise in advance if a thread has already been posted bout this.
Now Americans, truthfully, I read an article recently stating that in a recent poll, 1 in 2 Americans believe Saddam Hussein is responsible for the attacks on the World Trade Centre, now surely that can't be right cos that's just plain scary for the rest of us in the world if that's true. Secondly, v.v. briefly, war - yes or no? |

Re: Quick question...........
War? Hell yeah! Get rid of the bastard once and for all. Just don't stop short of Baghdad this time... Oh, and don't you DARE tell Israel to stay put while raining DOZENS of Iraqi Scuds on their heads again, just because you have Arab allies... that just made me plain MAD! Israel has the right to defend itself, but it seems the rest of the world has a problem with that.
Did Saddam do 9/11? Hardly... he cheered it, but he didn't do it. Does he have anything to hide? Damn right! Just one thing... after Iraq, is Korea next? If not, why? If so, why? Tricky issue... |

Re: Quick question...........
Hell, as long as Bush doesn't go after the UK for siding with the Americans and yet not actually being American then I'll be happy!
![]() Trust me when I say that I actually think he's capable of it !! Very scary ![]() |

I laugh my ass off every time I watch "The Daily Show" (everyday...) and see Jon Stewart rightly kicking Bush's policies and behaviour...

Re: Quick question...........
Bush most likely launched the attacks on the World Trade Center, to divert attention from the fact that he was never elected President.

Re: Quick question...........
I guess the most scary thing is the fact that the guy is in charge of the most powerful country on the planet and he's a fuc/king lunatic!!!
Did anyone else notice how a war on Iraq would be a really hany way for America to get its hands on the oil? If i ever find that article by John le Care I read in the Times I'll choose a few choice bits and post them. The only 1 I can remember off hand is, he has a friend that lives in California, he had a sticker on his car saying, "Peace is also patriotic" he went grocery shopping, within 5 minutes the sticker was gone from his car.......... |

I don't care what the hell they do, as long as whatever happens makes the price of gas go down. I'm sick of paying over $1.50 a gallon for friggin' gas!

So how many pints in a US Gallon? 8 or 6. I think it's 6. In the UK it's 8, so that would be $2 per UK Gallon, right. Which is about £1.30. Okay, the UK cost of petrol is 74p per litre. There are 4.45 litres per gallon. This equates to £3.29 ![]() And you think you have it tough? ![]() |

Re: Quick question...........
The oil issue is non-logical and non-sensical. What would the United States do with Iraqi oil fields? Set up a refinery and start their own company or start shipping it to the US and giving it away? This argument doesn't even begin to understand oil trade policy and the way the free market economy works. American oil companies wince at the idea of some free pipeline of oil being pumped to America. In short, it would run them completely out of business, it would wreak havoc on existing markets, and devestate a high percentage of the world market and the ally nations that depend on the oil trade. On the other hand, such a prospect benefits no one, makes no one rich, and accomplishes nothing. The government doesn't buy or sell oil, the free market economy does. This is a grasping at straws issue, a blatant effort to stand against the justifiable taking down a madman that suddenly the whole world seems ready to defend for some unknown reason. He's a murderer, a lunatic, a liar, and a serial killer of massive proportions.
Let us remember the true nature of morality — that there is a sin of omission as well as that of commission. Well-meaning citizens demand peace at all costs; but they do not tell us that the reluctant willingness to use force — not slogans of moral superiority — so far in this war alone has saved lives. We are not being murdered today from al Qaeda bases in Afghanistan only because of the bravery of American troops. Afghans are free solely because of the force of the U.S. military. And thousands of Shiites and Kurds are safe for one more day because of our pilots' hourly courage. So too is it with a free and prosperous Korea that stands independent because of the brave soldiers who right now patrol its borders. It is precisely to preserve life and to offer hope to enslaved millions that we even consider the last — and often regrettably the only — choice to use arms, even though the easier path is embrace a pacifism that would win us momentary acclaim even as it would later prove deadly for thousands. |

That's an idiotic statement that demonstrates either absolute ignorance or complete emotional detestation of someone based, I would speculate, on anti-American rehetoric. Comparing the president of our nation, regardless of who he is (even Bill Clinton) to Sadaam Hussein is simply mor/onic. |

The SciFlicks Adress... You must've been George Washington or Abe Lincoln in a past life, my friend! Now, I am all for this war, and my support, which was weak at first, is now strong. And I'm glad to see that Portugal is one of the 8 countries that signed a document offering unconditional support in case of war. Our base in Lajes always was vital when it came to US strategy, due to it's "delicate" geographic position. BUT, I'm no fool. I understand the humanitarian reasons to interfere, but one thing is certain: "The oil must flow", to borrow from a good movie... No matter how many "good" reasons there are to interfere, the main reason will always be to deter any possible Iraqui move to seize oil and put OPEC in check, especially at this turning point when oil is all the more precious and rare. How is this done? By putting vital oil fields in Allied hands. That's undeniable, Sith, sorry to say. OPEC and the US are working hand-in-hand in this, but the way I see it, if they can do good along the way, then be my guests. ![]() |

Re: Quick question...........
For me it's not so much the use of conflict - if they have to then they have to. It's more the way that certain countries seem to have decided to wage a war and will stop at nothing until they get one.
It is the way in which it has all been handled, the fact that it is 10 years since this was supposed to have been done, the fact that there is apparently an "indisputable" link between Al Qaeda and Iraq (other than they both have the letter "Q" ) but one which no-one can prove. And it is naive of people to think that it has nothing to do with oil. That was the reason the US jumped so quickly when Kuwait was invaded and that is one of the strongest reasons they want a regime change in Iraq. |

Re: Quick question...........
"Hey, we have still a few explosives and stuff left from The Millennium Party! Let's make a war!" ...The whole war thing is like some hyper active kids doing something to calm down. Or that's how it seems to me. They'll never grow up. The best thing could be if SH would leave his country and everybody would let it be. But I suppose that never happens. And the oil will be expensive.

Re: Quick question...........
WHO F***ING CARES. WAKE UP AND SMELL THE HOMELESS.
WE AMERICANS HAVE BECOME SO MUCH ACCUSTOMED TO BLAMING OUR MISTAKES ON OTHERES THAT WE FAIL TO NOTICE THAT THERE WAS SOMETHING WE COULD HAVE DONE TO PREVENT WHAT HAPPENED. HOW ABOUT CUTTING OTHER PEOPLE SLACK. PEOPLE ARE STARVING ELSE WHERE AND WE WORRY ABOUT LUXURY CARS AND WHAT NOT. IT MIGHT SURPRISE YOU TO KNOW THE NUMBER OF PEOPLE OUT THERE WHO THINK THAT SADAM IS A HERO (DONT GET ME WRONG, I DONT. I HOPE HE ROTTES IN HELL) AND LIKE IT OR NOT THEY ARE SANE PEOPLE LIKE YOU AND ME! TO WORK OUR DIFFERENCES WE NEED TO MAKE OTHER PEOPLE COMFORTABLE ABOUT THE IDEALS OF AMERICA, NOT BY BOMBING THEM!! |
